Alesis makes good affordable compressors. You can pick up a good brand new one for about $300 - $400.

You may wanna try the alesis nanocompressors too. They're cheep as hell, and they sound amazingly good. I own 3 of them. They're only 1/3 of the rack space too. so you can get a few without taking up space.

Out of a 10
I'd give'em a 8.5 - 9

Check out these people. They do a pretty cheap compressor that a lot of pros really rate...I've heard people comparing it to things five times the price!

...and they seem quite nice people too.

Get the nanocompressor it's only £80 or about $140. Can't get any cheeper than that really and it's good!!

Ok...what are the capabilities that a compressor would have vs. a nanocompressor? I want to pick up something that is flexible and decent for distortion and altering my TB's sound. The only thing I've tried was a cheap-ass Boss distortion pedal, but there was a lot of unwanted noise with the thing and it had to be turned WAY up, or maybe that was the pussy amp I had, but anyway, are there any best buys on this type of product? I'm currently eyeing an Alesis 3630. Are distortion pedals worth considering also?

i am not really sure that i compressor will provide distortion and change your tb's sound. What it will do is make everything sit well in the mix and give your finished recordings a more professional feel. If you want to distort your 303 get that gain up to almost max on your mixing desk thats the only thing that really kicks it.
