Does anyone know why me 303 doesn't work with batteries? is there anything I should specifically test for?

Nothing better than opening the thing up and checking the connections. If it works with a power adaptor it should work with a battery. If you don't know anything about electronics then don't do anything. Just let someone who knows look at it. Mostly it's just common sense though. I've purchased a lot of equipment that doesn't work for cheap and managed to fix every problem from bad soldering to replacing IC's, capacitors, and resistors with only a basic understanding of electronics.

I had this problem with a TR-606 once. (must I say "TR" first?) Anyhow, it would power up with the AC adapter, but I couldn't get jack shit with the batteries. After pulling the case, I could see what was wrong. There was corrosion on the positive battery terminal. It was so thick and heavy, no wonder why the poor thing couldn't power on. So I used a wool wirey pad (like an SOS pad) to lighty scrape the crusty ass crap all over the battery spring. After getting really anal for a bit, I cleaned it pretty good. And then assempled it back up....easy.

P.S. You can go down to Rat Shack and they might have a few different spray solutions. It's worth a try, but don't listen to some of these loonatiks here on this board, they'de probably advise you to use gas or cat litter or something fucked up like that...

I had the same problem with my 303...
The first 303's had a rather thin positive battery connector. So there's often no connection with most batteries. Check out, if there's a gap between the first battery and the connector.
I fixed the problem by just putting some aluminium foil between it.

peace
