check it out - press release CHICKEN SYSTEMS TRANSLATOR UPDATE
Translator - top quality conversion and sampler tool software
Hello everyone; we hope all of you are surviving this winter. (Unless, of course, you are in the Southern Hemisphere - boy, we're jealous of you!)
Hey, we never got around to announcing to all of you Translator 2.0. We presented it at NAMM, and shipments are filtering out of here to current users. Translator 2.0 puts together all the features in the earlier Release 1 builds, and adds new functionality, such as EXS-24 support, reading of Mac CD-ROM's, and much more.
The latest build of Translator is 2.1 Build 14 - it is now available at our site. Some notable features:
-Advanced Giga conversions; Roland, all Emu, SampleCell Mac, Ensoniq, Akai, Kurzweil, .WAV, AIFF, SoundFont
-Full EXS support: Akai, Emu, Ensoniq, Roland
-As mentioned before, Translator can read Mac disks and read information off of them.
-You can ACID-ize .wav files in bulk
-Extraction of all major platforms to .wav
-Many major translations reviewed and made more reliable
-Streamlined code makes many functions quicker and seamless
Users can download the latest version from our web site; see accompanying post for details.
WHAT DOES TRANSLATOR DO
Perhaps a brief overview of what Translator does would be helpful. Translator is a program where you can view your sampler CD-ROM's and hard disks on your computer. You can read, write, and format them, just like you would with your normal computer hard drive. However, Translator's real strength is just that - translation. Through intense research, our programmers have devised methods to take entire program setups from one platform and convert it into another, maintaining all possible aspects of the source. For example, we can take a Roland CD-ROM and with one drag-and-drop operation, you can transfer all the Performances or Patches on that CD to, say, Giga format, or EXS-24 format. All the samples are put in their original positions. Envelopes sound the same. Loops are perfect. A great tool, to say the least.
Translating isn't all Translator does. You can backup your sounds. You can create Virtual Drives that you can burn to your own CD-ROM's - archive your choice of sample FROM ANY FORMAT and make your own custom CD-ROM.
Translator is #1 in support and help. We can be contacted M-F 9-5 CST at 1-800-877-6377 to talke to an actual engineer to answer any questions or solve any problem. Translator has extensive diagnostics that allow us to not only fix bugs, but to improve the program's translations so EVERYONE benefits from the over 1000 users who operate the program.
Translator aims to read, write, and translate to and from, all formats - if you have one or more samplers, Translator is the product for you.
NEW NEWS
-Formats we are working with for our next release: all MPC equipment, Yamaha, Akai S5000, Roland XV-5080, SampleCell, Halion
-MAC version - work is starting to wrap up with it, and is due for release shortly. No date set yet.
-We are sprucing up and optimizing our EXS translations.
-Kurzweil (as a destination) support is coming; be able to convert Akai, Roland, Emu, etc., into Kurzweil with all available parameters - the conversions are BETTER than the native Kurzweil translations.
-DEMO VERSION: It's finally going up next week, so if you have been interested in Translator but haven't taken the plunge yet, check it out. Keep watch!
You can see Translator in action on Spectrasonics new outstanding release, Metamorphosis. Both the Akai and Gigasampler version were done using Translator.
Translator is featured in March 2001 Electronic Musician's "What's New" area. A fairly complete description is included, with a screen shot and contact information.
There are many manufacturers that build Gigasampler systems for high-level and professional users. One of note is Ilio's dynamite "Kirk Hunter Virtuoso Strings". Translator is bundled with many of them. Clients include Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, and Stewart Copeland.
ESOTERIC FEATURES BEING WORKED ON
We are about to complete some fun projects that we've been piddling around with for awhile. The Defragmenter is about done and should show up soon. We duplicated Norton's "look-and-feel" to apply to proprietary formats. It looks cool! It's especially effective for Emu drives, as the file and allocation scheme is largely inefficient. What better way to keep your drives in tip-top shape!
We are making Property Sheets for each format. These are the dialogs that come up when you right-click on an Object and select "Properties." They won't just tell you what the parameters are for each Object - you'll get to edit every single parameter! Not only that, and samples will be accessible with your favorite sample editor - edit your favorite Emu sample, for example, with Sound Forge, and save it right back to the Emu formatted hard disk! We are also planning Instrument-Building; meaning you can add/delete KeyGroups/Presets/Layers, etc.
In other words, these innocent-looking Property Sheets will because powerful editors in and of themselves.
And finally, when we were just running out of breath, SMDI will be added. When you add SMDI to the already powerful Translator feature set, watch out! Imagine this: drag a Kurzweil Program off a proprietary Kurzweil disk and drop it on Emu sampler - off the samples will go right into the Emu sampler itself! But admittingly, SMDI is limited to mostly sample transferring - but think of the convenience.
There's more coming as well.
PRICES AND PARTING SHOTS
Translator comes as a Full Version (translate everything into everything) with retails for $149.95. You can buy it at our Web Site - www.chickensys.com/translator.
