I had an idea for a script once. It's basically Jaws except when the guys in the boat are going after Jaws, they look around and there's an even bigger Jaws. The guys have to team up with Jaws to get Bigger Jaws.... I call it... Big Jaws!!!

From Yamaha.com:
If you'll be recording with the AW4416 alone, from mostly analog sources, you probably won't even need any additional interface cards. The AW4416 comes equipped with 8 analog microphone/line inputs. All inputs are balanced with TRS phone plugs, while channels 1 and 2 additionally feature XLR type connectors with switchable phantom power, +48v and insert I/O points for patching in external analog signal processing devices. Channel 8 also features a Hi-Z unbalanced input intended primarily for direct-recording guitar or bass. Digital input capability is provided via a coaxial stereo input. If that's not enough for your recording needs, then you can add up to 16 analog and/or digital inputs via two I/O card slots on the rear panel.
You can mix and match I/O cards as required, so you could, for example, add four high quality 24-bit analog inputs via a MY4-AD card in one slot, and 8 channels of ADAT optical digital input via a MY8-AT in the remaining slot. The Sampling Pads which can be used for realtime playback and recording of samples effectively provide another 8 inputs, the dual stereo effect returns are another 4, and the hard-disk recorder section has another 16 inputs. That adds up to 44 inputs with full simultaneous mix capability.
----
So you can really only have a maximum of 24 inputs from external kit.. The input cards are the same as the 01V and will run you $250-300 US for the ADAT I/O or the 4-channel analog card. There's an 8-channel analog card too, but I don't know how much it'd cost you.

i know of people completing large projects with just an 02r but somehow it seems yamaha are being a little deceptive.
do you think you could properly complete and master (to disc as they put) whole songs ready for release?

the literature for the aw4416 states 'if you usuing mostly analogue equipment you won't need more than the 8 analogue ins'!!
why is this then??
i have so many modules with so many outputs are they implying i re-route cables as and when i need them.
my mixer at the moment has everything i can patched in but 8 analogue ins simply won't cut it?
i may be reading this wrong but can someone explain the process of the aw4416 and recording.
i'm new to recording workstations and need to see if this is what i want.
am i expected to record several signals at different times rather then all in one go??
i want to get into vocals so a workstation could be good but the midi side is a bit misunderstood by me.
can someone explain
cheers

if you notice all the other digital workstatuions only have 8 inputs with no expansin options. crap!!
anyway, it just seemed odd, altough it's a recorder that you can't do a 16 channel record at the same time, say designating which channels to record without repatching cables.
i usually have 6 channels just for drum hits. then breaks, stereo pads, panning sounds, vocals, etc. possibly all at once!!
