The rules said 10-12 weeks I think. Should probably have an exact last date for entry just to avoid any unclarity.

21 days is fine by me .. but honestly I think we should b working from the same samples, if u want to hear orginal work, just click on view user .. when everyone works from the same starting point it gives content for a "Track Competition".. hell I could submit the track that I've been working on for over a month or whatever .. and honestly I'm not after free samples, just looking for the arrow that points in the right direction ..

Yes 10 -12 weeks sounds good, I`m in L.a at the moment and will only be home in a month, so 10 -12 weeks for me is good. I wanna remix a track.
I`ll nominate myself when its finished.

Sorry k for being a bit of a toss and not reading the rules, last night I paid homage to my trusty`Bong` and did not get too read the rules. I still think the track I nominated for someone else is good, even though it has alot of samples, it was made just with a computer, and 3 software programs, and I believe him. A good example that u do not need gear to make good dance. It was proof for me !

If there is to be a slight chance of me entering ONE tune, 10-12 weeks is a must :P

I usually write in with a mix of audio and midi. Would that pan out ok. Or should we all use strictly midi at least for starters so as to show that the track isn't stolen?

True. In the states we don't generaly think of July/August as being holidays but I know from spending lots of time in Germany, so that makes sense.

What must be the min. lenghth of the track, 4 min ?I was thinking of making the track 4 minutes and encoding at a higher resolution to improve the quality, is that allowed ? G

OK, so the rules mention that the winners will need to supply the midi stuff, but what if we're using all audio (i.e. sw)? I could supply the .flp file for the what I'm gonna do in Fruity...

don't stress the specifics okay? do a song, it'll get judged. if you start fussing with 3 minutes, 4 minutes, audio/midi, it's going to all go straight to fucking hell.

i mean if a guy writes tracks with an mmt-8 he's not going to rush out and buy a midi port to prove he wrote the track, right? so proof of sufficient form ought to suffice. scuse me but i just couldn't imagine k saying 'you're out because this is the wrong midi file format' or some shit. i mean give the guy a break! some free time, i mean! yes.

I'm almost done with a track. Once I put it up in the track competition thread, I can still post another thread asking for people to listen to it Right?

er... ?

ok to clarify

1. songs added to the ++Track Competition++ thread CAN be changed after adding them to that thread cos the songs are dynamicaly linked so there's no need to go back and add them again to the thread of course (dont we think of ewverything?

2. if a track is entered it doesnt mater what else is posted about it elsewhere.

3. quite a few offers of prizes are coming in from other sources... so there'll be more superb competitions after this one - mebbe a 'remix' context methinks yes?!

What do you mean dynamically linked K? What that sounds like to me is that if I make a change to a track in my sequencer it will automatically update here. I know that's not possible so what are you referring to? Aren't I a pain?

yes

if you update a track with a new mix, it doesnt matter cos tracks added link to forum posts via your profile - so there's no need to come back to this thread and make any note/post cos already you nominated the song.

as to when the sell-by date is - we'll keep it going a bit more, cos we've missed a few weeks now with this disk thing.. let's get a few more tracks onboard.

I don't get it, how is the competetion judgment?, it is based on votation or there is a judges group for that?

How can I see the number of votes for my tracks?

Thanks in advance.

well a bunch of us are going to decide... but we were thinking of setting up a chart for the contest after we close the entries - we could make a chart of the tracks and let it garner votes?.. or we could set that up earlier and add tracks in to the chart as they are added to the contest, but then that gives earlier added tracks an advantage cos they'd be available to rack up votes for longer.... so anyways all you need to do is add a post into the ++competition++ thread and nominate your prize - if you have nmore than one track to choose from (max 3) then you must re-order your track-list in your admin 'My tracks - edit tracks' so that the 3 tracks are stacked in the right order - this i only relevent to do if you have MORE than 3 tracks added so just place the first 3 you want at the top cos we will listen to those in order...

ha ha ha... like THAT'll make any difference !!... do they know any of you?... nope... i think we'll be judging it from 3 angles

1. overall track/production - the vibe is first

2. idea's and effort put into the piece

3. making the most of the gear - equally important as the first 2

so what you're saying then is that if a certain person doesn't win, it'll be because the judges knew the tracks were his?

ahh, I'm beginning to understand. a "certain someone" could indeed win -- if the overall production and vibe of his track is good, there's good ideas and effort present in his music and he's made the most of his gear -- despite the judges' obvious bias against him personally, then? not that they have any, of course. and if he doesn't win, he's not to take it that the judges hold some sort of grudge or personal hatred or vindictiveness toward him, but that they just thought somebody else's track was better?

All I'm saying is that universally accepted contest rules usually require that the judges have no prior relationship with contestants, be it good or bad. If a relationship exists, anonymity can help preserve the integrity of the contest.

OK... we're winding up the Track Competition, there's a bunch of music people getting together to judge the winners before the christmas break, so the results will be released before christmas, so even if we cant get the prizes out before christmas...

a full 'reason' will be given for our descisions of the prize winners.

Next year we have a few surprises due for ya'll which should kick in around the beggining of february if we get working hard in the new year - after that there will be PLENTY of regular competitions with lots of cool prizes!

We've also got plenty of directo offers for other cool s/w prizes from various companies.

So K, that would be the 19th as the last day to enter a track. I want to get one finished to replace an entry. Should be wrapping it up tomorrow morning or tuesday morning. Want to make sure I'm still good timewise.

shit.. actualy something happened. I had a run in a few nights ago with another tenent in the building which ended up pretty bad... anyways the judging evening had to be cancelled as it's not appropriate so soon after what happened... frankly i'm not in the mood now, it's been a bit depressing since the event... so unfortunately the judging will happen after christmas around new year - either between christmas & new years eve or the week after. Sorry, but i'm rammed full of negative energy since that night cos the guy was really giving it some aggro & it's going to take a week or so for it to subside.

Sorry to hear that K. Take things easy. Don't let it get any more out of hand. If possible, take an opportunity to let the guy know things can smooth out. Do I sound like a daily horoscope? Just concerned about you.

Oh no sitar... I smoothed it out all right.. it took 45 bloody minutes tho before i felt he was 'sufficiently chilled'!... I just used some low-end jedi mind trick shit on him till he ran out of steam - no feedback just absorbsion... but thats why i felt so shite for the next 3 days, it was 45 minutes of absorbing his energy. I'm not going to loose it with him, i wasn't in danger at any time cos i was absorbing and so he had nothing to feedback on and amplify his energy and it was therefore quite quickly on a decay trajectory... and he was drunk so not really responsible... but you know what drunks are like... they calm down in stages... then rile up, remembering what the row was and kick off again... then they calm down, then rile up again.. and so it goes in waves, each wave slightly less until they are thru with whatever shit the booze has unbottled and it's out...

heh heh - I remember one night a very similar situation... i was down the back alley of Heaven club (ooer missus).. loading gear into a van and this guy comes spilling out the back door with a crash, dragged by the bouncers who were about to mash him up... he was pissed as a fart man, roughish looking crusty about 40 i'd say, he looked quite old.. and he was lipping it to these huge guys hardcore, really giving them verbal shit... anyways, I got him out of it, calmed the bouncers down and sent him away... but i heard later the silly sod got a 'rememberance' attack, and went back again to the club for a row... and got a kicking from them apparently or a smack or two at least. So you know what I mean?.. they kind of wake-up out of their drunkeness and sort of 'remember' - "Oi!!.. I was having a row!!.. where's it gone!!?' - and off they go again eh!... sometimes you cant help people is all I know..

actualy that was quite funny... both the bouncers were massive, like 6.4 ish one black one white.. the white guy was quite badly shaken actualy.. he was a posh-ish college rugby player type it turned out using his bulk to make a buck I guess, but he was shaking a bit for sure... probably his first time in action heh heh..

The black guy was a tad shaken too, heh heh.. actualy i cheeked him a bit.. I told him - "Tsk man!!... VERY SLOPPY !!.. The guy at one point pulled you down on top of him when he went down on the floor and you leaned forward and went over on top of him... Now, he could have pulled you down onto a pocketed knife SO easily!!.. basicaly, you totaly lost your posture & right now soldier, you could be FUCKED with a knife in your belly thru to the back and out the other side!!" - He was a tad abashed... but it made the silly sod think tho... thats why he was shaken cos he went over like that...

heh heh, when it actualy happened it was like watching one of those crap action movies when the 'goody' leans over to grab the downed 'baddie' who appears helpless .. and you think.. "thats really stupid.. DONT bend down over him like that cos he'll...." - and the badie does it of course every time... *Sigh*

that story of the bouncers by the way doesnt mean i'm 'dead hard' or anything bragging wise.. i was tripping at the time and acid takes away any fear I have, it's odd... mebbe thats why it was like watching a crap action film

oh, & sitar i didnt mean a few laps of hyde park in one go!.. heh heh - lemme tell you NON runners... if you like drugs, it's awesome the feeling afterwards... so so still...... total calm... amazing! & free. (well ok air/gel trainers are a must)

Cool story. When I've tripped I think that kinda incident would freak me out a bit. One time I was with some friends and we had done some acid and here comes this real hitter type guy from the neighborhood. One of my friends lived next door to him and said this guys gonna kill us if he thinks we're on a substance. Built like a tank. So he comes over and says ello and we're all kinda silent except my friend who lived next door to him. This guy notices i have a flower in a buttonhole of my jacket and says what the f*ck is this you a f*ckin hippy or something. I told him that Al Capone wore flowers and I liked Al Capone. . He gave me a look like he couldn't comprehend what I just said and then he made some comment like then it was ok that I had the flower in my buttonhole. I might've been dead meat otherwise. He and his brother were sick dudes.

Anyways I'm glad you stayed in control. I know what you mean about drunks coming back to the subject and getting riled up all over again. That's somebody totally out of control.

haha, sitar. you hippy! ;)

on an acid comedown once, a few of us were walking to an early morning cafe, and on the way the guy in front slipped on a banana skin.

just a staple slapstick routine that i never thought i'd see in 'real' life.

talked my way out of a traffic ticket on acid when i was young.. no fear for sure

i can really see that playing out sitar.. these ny types sound like fairy-tale trolls and locks and puzzles.. i can't help but see it as a hell populated with screeching jewish-sounding women shoppers and these insane rocky-talking ogre types.. diabolical really, but i guess that's the way it works. gotta really walk straight and the doors just swing open.

i have tried playing with that low-end thing too.. lowest pitch dominates in male-to-male relations.. and with a muso's ear you can tweak your voice (follow your ear, don't worry about training your voice-it will follow) to have kicking resonant low end even if you're pitched high and gentle and mellow. you have to be careful, because it really seems to bring an instant dog-like heirarchic reaction, but one that could instantly become a challenge-for-rank if you mess up on it. apply with discretion..

if only you oculd jump into a time-pocket on these instances and spend a few hours communicating.. this is how it works.. this is what is happening.. semantics, big thing in evolution.
