Influx,
Smoke and mirrors is absolutely banging track. I think it
is your best out of everything that you have listed.
It is complex, has fat beats, get's very dense in the end,
and feels deep.
Very dope.
Your other tracks seem to be great on the drum
programming (fat by the way - how do you do?), but the
bassliness and acid stabs/pads are pretty common
sounding for the most part (for this genre anyway).
However, that being said, I can see where you thought
my track Phonewerk was too basic. You have a much
more active track build up than I do.
Anyway, that is my blow hard analysis. Smoke and
Mirrors though? Shoot - that is the absolute freakin'
mack daddy track.
I'm off to listen to it again.

the other stuff sounds common? some, maybe, but damn dude...most of my sounds are hand crafted to the core!
well again, a hifi version sure does sound better, and theres one section...a transition that just DOESNT work and I need to smooth it out but my stuff is all torn down now

Im still gonna fight you for that "common' statement

Yo influx,
I understand your comments about making
those sounds from scratch. You deserve
props for that, of course.
But, I think (in my humble opinion - uh, blow
hard opinion, maybe?) that you are designing
sounds that you have been influenced by.
No problems with that, of course. That is how
we learn and grow! But, with that being said,
the sounds I was referring to sound familiar -
so if I was at a breaks club I wouldn't
necessarily be able to say "holy shit - that is
Influx's sound! Nobody sounds like that Cat!"
You see what I am saying? The sounds are
good, but not covering any new territory - so I
would imagine that would be a goal of yours,
possibly?
It was like when Ed Rush and Optical were
hittin' 5 years ago - I mean, you could
recognize their flavor! And if you were wrong
about a particular track, you could be sure that
the artist playing was *mimicing* their sound -
or paying homage. whichever.
So, I would get deeper into your synth
programming skills and draw up some real
sick blasto synth sounds that make the song
yours!
You obviously are kickin' it with some talent.
And my review is coming from not an artists
perspective per se, but the DJ in the shop
listeing to a track to see if I would buy it....
BTW, congrats on the listing in Tweakend. Any
publicity is good publicity. Too bad they didn't
list you by your handle...INFLUX Baby!

Hey Influx, you didn't respond. I was hoping that I didn't offend you with my comments.

I dunno. Ive listened to so many varying styles of music over my twenty..uh..nevermind...years that Im just a mutt as far as influences go
digitalbound...I wasnt offended..not the right word. I just dont think that my sounds sound "typical". I mean..I cant say that Im autechre or something, but nor do I think that my stuff sounds like I sat down and said "well I like that bass so Im gonna copy it, and that lead so Im gonna get that one"...
but however you hear it is how you hear it and nothing can change that
Ed...sounds good at lofi? you must be peakin but thanks anyway
I will have a CD ready soon. Im tired of printing out demos to send out. next offering will be a good recording, on my own label. full length album and 12's to come.
