Greetings! I'm making my decision regarding which Novation synth I should buy. My current synths setup includes a Yamaha EX7 and an Alesis QS6. I would like to get a complement to both these synths so I could produce modern trance tracks.

So, I checked both Nova II and SuperNova II synths at my local store. Although I was pleasantly surprised with the Nova IIx (24 voices), I was just blown away by the SuperNova IIx Pro (48 voices). When I asked the technical differences between both, he just pointed me the polyphony difference. However, I'm not such convinced of this because I felt the effects and EQ section on the SuperNova II is better than on the Nova II. Is it true? I mean, besides the 24 vs. 48 voices polyphony, the 6 parts vs. 8 parts multitimbrality and the 4 octaves vs. 5 octaves design, is there any other differences between these synths?

My local store sells the Nova II for 2800 $ while the SuperNova II goes for 4000 $! Is the price difference worth, considering my needs?

Any input would be appreciated!

Hi Pace,

The SNII Pro is a 36 voice machine also if you wanna go halfway.

The Nova II has 2 Performance, 4 Program and 4 Drum Map Banks whereas the SNII has twice these. The Nova II also has 2 User Arp Banks where the SNII has 3. The SN has 8 Audio outs vs 6 on the Nova.

Apart from the above and the differences you've noted already they are the same. Shouldn't be any differences in the sound engine at all.

What kind of $ are they? Not US?

HTH and Good Luck

Murray

Thanks Murray for the info!

So, the Nova II looks like a striped down version of the SuperNova II but boasting the same engine power. I think I will go for the Nova II since it better suits my needs, especially my budget. You wondered which currency I was using in my previous post? Fortunately, it was not US dollars but rather Canadian dollars, which is equal to 0.67 $ US. Oh! Before I forget, is there any good website around for Nova user patches?

Thanks again!

Pascal
