here's some data on the increase of speed. I did some test runs myself with the internal Zip100, scsi transfer with foundforge and SCSI-CR-ROM (plextor 32 or sumthing)
Size (Mb) Kb/s s/Mb Time (s)
ZIP100 2,3 32,86 30,43 70 5 progs
106% 67,65 14,78 34
ZIP100 4,1 30,37 32,93 135 16 progs
101% 61,19 16,34 67
SCSICD 17,6 41,22 24,26 427 4 progs
175% 113,5 8,81 155
SCSITRANS 3,4 28,81 34,71 118 1 WAV
74% 50,00 20,00 68
Here's me results....(1.07-1.50)
I tried loading 2 volumes from my Internal ZIP100 and as you can see OS is twice as fast to about 65 Kb/s. I also tried my plextor 32 speed Scsi CD-Rom..the st21 from the strings and choir CD (18 meg almost) and the increas in speed was drastic: it nearly tripled to 113 Kb/s (I did it twice to verify the new speed: same result!) .. Even Scsi transfer with Soundforge had a resonable increase in speed to circa 50 kb/s.
So the upgrade was definitly a good idea..one can't help but wonder WHY on earth Yamaha didn't release this tho the general public a bit earlier (I've even heard them deny the upgrade in SCSI speed!)...this must have turned of quite a few of potential buyers. Why on earth???
Cheers,
Hajee
