Halloween is a wonderful American holiday, a warm celebration of the good things in life.

This year I�m carving a pumpkin, and I�m putting a candle inside.

Now some kid can come along and smash it, and maybe burn his hand on the hot wax. Ha!

Anyway, it�s kind of hard to say what it�s about, but there is something special there.

�Toil and trouble� comes to mind.

You see, they use to come out only after dark, but now they stay through the day... things have changed.

Who? Ghouls, witches and zombies. Wraiths. The legions of the undead.

They are kind of familiar. Seen them before, have you?

Surprise! They will take over the planet. Bet on it. Bet often.

Their revolution is coming.

They scare people.

Why? Just because they are standing there all together.

Not speaking, not really doing anything. Just standing together, �representing�.

Nothing to sell, and not much to say. Barely moving. Taking care of their own.

Perhaps handing out something to read, or making a noise that you remember.

Maybe it still makes you shiver.

In their scary monster lives, they have their own scary monster laws, and their own scary monster leaders. Shadows, all.

Membership has its privileges, they say, as well as its costs.

Maybe they'll let you in.

They say things like "trust" and "it's nothing", and "three".

Out in the light, they barely move... so slow, so.. frozen. So cold.

Ever resourceful, they have their own monster bank. To get access, they each have their monster ID cards, and their monster ID number. The mark of the beast, to be sure.

They pledge allegiance. They leave out some words, and put others in their place.

They see the moons and the stars...

They are not afraid of you.

hmmm.... I used to see young people just as miners.... but now I see that they are all monsters, ready to destory the world and make a new one....

this is good, because I was losing hope....

today is All Saints Day.
