Hey, people. I've been listening to quite a lot of this "broken beat" style. I think it's a teriffic style that I'd like to get into. But I'm havin some difficulty developing a broken beat groove. If anyone could offer some advice or suggestions, I'd surely appreciate it.

I would recommend listening to more of it, and and at first, trying to ouright copy the lines note for note, so that you can see where each note falls and which ones work together to create which effects within the music. This exercise is called Trancription, and although at times tedious and annoying, it is the best and most effective way to learn, and even your mistakes will teach you loads. If you have somebody spoonfeed it to you, you will only get the tiniest glimpse of the picture, instead of understanding why each note works, which ones do and don't work well with which other ones, etc.. This probably isn't the advice you wanted to hear but it's honest and will help you if you choose to follow it.

Actually, that's excellent advice. I didn't even know it had an official name =]
But I will follow it and hopefully I'll learn something.
Thanks for the help,
Igor

if you've got recycle (or similar) and a bit of a methodical/math head you can 'analyze' beats and try and 'see' what's going on in the midi file, but really just listen and learn. one thing that can get frustrating is if u don't have the right sounds for a certain style, then with all the programming in the world it's not going to sound 'right', might sound good tho ...
