Anyway this track is called 'Cannot Repeat.' Say what you want about the track, but don't bother mentioning EQ/levels/mastering, etc- it's recorded live! Bassline is real subby and got mostly lost in the encoding- hey turn it up for me on your stereo willya?
First in a series...cheers for listening if you do.

atmos just doesn't cut with the voice. nice
singing though.
Message 3/29 28-Nov-01 @ 08:50 AM - RE: Duo Electro *LIVE* tracks
excellent.
I would get some effects on that voice... like
some crazy delay with a subtle verb. definitley
will open the mix up.
cheers!

vox wise, there is a bit of subtle delay on there but you can't here it here. Compression is still something I'm working out- right now I'm using a 3630 just as a limiter- cuts down on the feedback big-time. Vox sound a tad dull b/c I always roll-off the highs on Marianne's mic, again, to prevent feedback.
getting good live vocals is one of our biggest technical challenges- most clubs/dj bars have speakers flown up EVERYWHERE...it'll just be trial&error for a while I'm sure.
Dude, you guys are awesome! Even when you say it's cheesy, that's great! thanks for the xp50 tips knowa- I'm sure marianimal will be interested.
what should we post up next Marianne?

that said, I think its a cool song. voice DEFINITELY needs some verb, delay, fx and to come back a bit. I know its live and not engineered but maybe you two otta look at something like the digitech vocalist or the like to achieve this
hey panama..did you even READ the first post? Id say brad made it pretty damn clear that he wasnt looking for "mix" advice:
"but don't bother mentioning EQ/levels/mastering, etc- it's recorded live"
bleaahhhhh!
nice shuffly one, Brad. Cant say I know much about "garidge" but it sounds cool to me

Slapback delay on the vox boys, but you know, you f*cking can't hear it! Blame it on the MP3 Brad, sure...;-)
It gets crazy at the end. I take off my shirt and belly dance, oh wait, you can't see that unless you come to the show, nyuk nyuk.

agreeing.. thinking an excessively wet sound would work well for electro vocals.. over-the-top diva house chorus with subtle panning band pass delays.
glad to hear you're in on the b/g vocals.. if you can make them extra-whiny and off-key like you're always cracking up and do a bit of 'woah' and 'yeah' it'd be magical.

m, playing's not cheesy, just the sound (a bit)
xoxos, no dx h/w, i'll have a look at rainbow synth vsti, might have to ask questions about programming tho (too late now anyway, maybe i should post before delivering).

I would love to be able to play like Jimmy Smith, who I don't think is cheesy at all, but I'm not there yet. As for over-the-top diva vox, hm, just not what I'm going for (or capable of, with respect to those who are) but maybe those fx would sound cool anyway. I'd also love to do something like what A Guy Called Gerald did with the woman's vox in "Voodoo Ray", which came up in another thread recently. She's like a lead synth, but not in your face. We're also experimenting more with sampling the vox and manipulating them, cos you know, I like buttons & knobs too.

I didnt say anything about any "cheeze" factor in this song...I dont see it that way. 'sides..the stuff Ive heard..with the pitched up vocals and shit...pretty cheesy. At least M's voice is real!
I listened to "Kafi" too...

This was recorded live in San Francisco. I was not wearing underwear that nite and I think it really helped...oops nevermind, sorry. Just check out the track if ya got a minute.

see if you can get one of those nice pleated catholic school girl skirts. that's really good for live. oh and try looking in a thrift store or something.. it doesn't need to be one that's on the girl.
Message 24/29 03-Dec-01 @ 12:42 PM - RE: Duo Electro *LIVE* tracks
one thing i don't like (sorry) is the timestretching outro it does work with the staccato rhythm though, like the rhythm always sounds like it's slowing down, in a good way. keep it up!

Electro Kafi, there's a popular raga in Indian music called Kafi..same spelling. I dig this more. I like when when the bass comes in. Damn I just realized she is singing Indian solfeggio and style. Hah! She studied Indian music some. Cool. I didn't hear her use Shuddh Gandhar, only Komal Gandhar. Or maybe she did. It's hard to tell in this live session. In any case I like this track and the sounds in it more. Tell her I said well done....not that it matters what the hell I think but it's nice when someone understands whatever it is someone else is doing and appreciates it. Unless that's your voice Brad :P

Hm, anglo folk juxtaposed with hard mad rhythm. I'm intrigued by this suggestion but if I try to imagine Sandy Denny blasting through a sound system it sounds all wrong. Any examples?
I do indeed have a pleated Catholic girl skirt, but I think the waist is a bit small for Brad. He'd have to leave it undone and wear suspenders.

Thanks for listening y'all. I've been returning the favor as of late, and it seems the quality of tunes has gone up here at DT...nice.

Love Radical is my favourite one. Love that bo bo be dip noise. Hmmm, well I know what I mean.
I'm a bit sick of the sound of garage now that we are getting all the commercial stuff in the UK. Must be a London thing.
Photos of me in a kilt going for a reasonable price?
