At last I'm about to get some sort of hardware VA-synth after several months of playing around with VSTi and GigaStudio on my PC. I'm currently leaning towards a used Nova or better yet the Super Nova. My (stupid/novice) question is about the polyphony; I know the Nova has 12 voice polyphony and the Super Nova 20 but when playing a note, will each oscillator eat one "unit" of polyphony or is it each program that uses one voice? I mean if I have a program with both oscillators active will that use 2 voices for each note played. Excuse me but I'm a real novice in this department and this question might seem rather stupid...

Not a stupid question at all. Some kit is specified by the total number of oscillators, but in the case of the Supernova/Nova the polyphony is the number of notes you can play at once. Each voice consists of up to 3 oscillators + noise source. How many oscillators you use has no effect on the polyphony.

Thanks alot!!

Exactly the kind of answer I was hoping for. In that case I think the Nova's 12 voices will be enough for me unless I can get a Super Nova extremely cheap...

In case I buy an old Nova, is it possible to update the OS?

Anyone got any idea if the 20 voice expansion card is still available for the original supernova?
