word. alright guys, I finally have something to show for my newest analog gear! new track up called: Chime along the 'B'. A neat breakbeat tune. Can I say break beat? does it break? blah, I sound like a 50'sish joke. anyway, Some of the vocal tones are off just by a hair, but I have no reference for keeping it on tune (and the ppl around me aren't any help)...

So, I hope you dig, and take a listen. peaceout y'all

i think you've 'got it' for reals. hoping one day you'll stop being so loopy. sounds nice.

This is really good. I like what you've done with the vocals, not too much of any of them. Nice falsetto bits. Not crazy about those snare buildups, personally, but at least they're not intrusive. You know, I really like that minimal part just after 4 minutes and it could be cool to intersperse a few more short bits like that earlier on, if you were going to do a different mix.

Excellent track dude. I love what you did with the vocals too. Nice you left it in stereo. Spaciously delicious. I think what you did with the snare builds. Fit in nicely. What's your new analog gear? Guess I should go back and see if you listed it.

you guys rock! thanks. I think I might do something more with the vocals - get'em even'ed out and less obvious on the ears... prolly make a vocal tune out of it...

xoxos: coming from you, I must be a real nut at times...

thanks y'all

hey btw xoxos: I didn't mean any negativity by that statement... just seemed fitting for some reason.

bedwyr: (hint), Outkast made a song about her.

sitar: newest analog gear - Sh-101, Juno-106, Octave Cat... lovely boards...

"now gimme a beat"? dunno bout that one. just a little bit cheezy for me...

one thing that hits me about the song is the way the bass follows the kick/snare pattern almost exactly...makes it way too choppy feeling...

maybe for the shuffly part of the snares use a different sound, or even go a little straighter boombap with the drums and have some more fillersounds to get that "funk" youre lookin for.

sounds a bit "icey" to me but you DO live in florida, right? guess you cant help it

You scored big with that vocal sample!

Yulp I hafta cast one vote for cutting up/varying the drums a bit more, fer sure axe the friggin' snare rolls. But I don't mind the way the bass&drums flow, I could def. dance to this.

Hey don't mean to be too harsh about the snare rolls, it just a personal thing I have. When I was 12 I was flammed up pretty bad by some snare rolls, and once I was mugged by some roto-toms ;-)

yea, I prolly could do more drum work, since
it's not my usually 4/4 - Like maybe cut the
beats up here and there... But when I was
making this tune, I wanted to do more with my
synths than rather the drums... so more time
was spent with live synth programming... So I
guess I'll take your comments with great
strength, cuse no one here locally noticed that!

Whenever I get the vibe again to make
Breakbeats (or whatever genre it is) , I'll spend
more time with the drums - since I know the
crowd is listening there.

axe the snare rolls, eh? I don't have a answer
for that one brad...

anyway, more to come guys and gals...

Just one man's opinion. Guess that other option would be to make big skull-cracking Fatboy Slim type fills. For what they are, you made them well.

Personally I prefer a different kind of pattern in the place where some people put snare rolls, something that's more syncopated or has other drums. That's what I meant about them. Just a preference & a suggestion to try if it sounds interesting to you.

one nice thing is whenever there's a percussion fill, put in an incidental synth melody/phrase instead.. much more colourful than stupid percussion.

all i meant by 'you've got it' pan was 'groove.' the part where you make somethnig nice.

tru Brad.

I guess I'll mess more with the drums and so
forth... Since I don't personalize my drums, I'll
try anything to make it sound smoother and
better.

thnx guys and gals!

nuttin much... just it's like drums are drums,
and melodies are melodies... But the
difference is, that melodies come from the
soul...

Crystal Method, Uberzone, DJ Icey, Chem
Bros, Scratch D, and bunch of others would
disagree with me.

Loved the female vocal, didnt like the 'now give me the beat' bit, or the 'whoops' nice sweeps and delay effects. They've already hit it on the head with the drums bit.

I'm sure you'll find the drums that are in your soul! Just listen for them, have fun. Really good tune, though.

great job with the vocal. I second the call for more variation in the beat and fills, but since it so dance-ish, maybe its good to keep it real steady and leave room for the dj to switch between breaks. I found myself looking for those little switches, though. I also wanted something on the upbeat after the breakdown. standard disclaimer about low-volume listen at work. good job.

cool guys. thanks for listening...

I'm gonna do some experimentation with the
tune when I get some time...

influx, well, Icey's drum patterns were quite
good (back in the day). Don't get me wrong,
there was better shit out there when he was
writting. But, his stuff was distinctive and
fresh...

dunno why you guys don't like the give me a B
vocal? I must be way out there, stuck in the old
school 'cheesy' stuff (which I cannot put
down). I MUST move to california and meet
BT!!!! ;-)

knowa: I know what yer talking about... But why
has it that these producers (especially the
ones who know their stuff), can get away with
open rhythm's after a upbeat or buildup...

perfect example is that Red Pill, Blue Pill
track... nice vocal buildup, then boom, back to
the beat... must be subtle rhythm's.

anyway, thanks for the listens

i liked the track. good sounds. what did you use for the bass, juno or sh? my only suggestion is that it needs a little more "sst sst sst" or perhaps just some "tikka tikka tikka"..get those hats movin
