Just got an RS7000 on saturday, nice box, still learning its many depths, this is something I've been doing with it. No other instruments used, for some reason its encoded pretty shytely? Haven't figured out arrangement on the RS7k yet so it all realtime stuff warts an all!

Death to Cubase! Long like the RS7000 ;P

Cheers M, still learning the box but itching to sync to me teebs for some new acid tracks.

Influx, I must admit once I first got the RS home I had some reservations but once I delved deeper those reservations paled in comparison to the options that this box gives - like the grid groove, gotta love that, each beat can be advanced or retarded by a specified number of ticks YUM! Ideal for vocals and stuff. Realistically I think you need to spend a couple of months using it as your main sequencer then you wont miss S\W sequencers.

I am still very much a newbie with this box but I think once you adapt to it the power, speed and results will be worth the time invested. I imagine I will be doing finished tracks with just this box, and thats not from neccessity as I have loads of other synths and stuff. Oh and if you havent got a smart media reader for your PC yet get one! Its so quick and easy to import wav files, superb.

why not just SCSI it up? thats what I plan to do

My first reaction was the day after getting it. Already feeling more familiar with it although I dont know if Ill be doing ALL my sequencing with it. There are things you just cant do without a screen..

or 'I' cant do at least. but...this thing is definitely a hella powerful box!

what can't you do without a screen? lemme know because i have just dethroned sonar to an audio only app :-)

i am now doing all my midi on the rs...

btw have you listened to the internal snare/kick/hats/perc kits????? INSTNINKINSANE

i went to copy my 10-12 megs of fave drum samples into the box but only ended up with 7 megs because the internal drums sound better than my samples.

Yep the fucking drums rock the discotech, I wish they had a few of the old eprom based sounds in there (DMX, Drumtraks etc) but I'll prolly just put em in meself in the sample common area. LOVE THIS BOX!

The only reason I use a screen, like Jamey is to edit wav files and for mastering CDs, the PC can't touch the RS for Midi. Some of the instrument sounds are kool and the gang as well.

bullshit about the midi being the same. You gonna tell me you can do complex midi edits on the RS, in the same amount of time?

You try to tell me that and I'll say youre full of shit

drums are good, yes.

one thing...fuckin around last night and I had a sequence running, and I was trying to go through the filters on track one...just a kick and snare..and it would only do one of the lowpass filters...

can you not switch while the sequencer is playing?

Also..theres a newer OS out, isnt there? Hell I couldnt figger out how to tell which one mine is running but I thought maybe it was a bug that could be fixed...

Well, ok I'll clear up what I meant - For years I've used Cubase\Notator (on the ST)and more recently VST\Logic (PC) and you do get set in the ways that those programs operate in terms of how you edit data, for example in Cubase key edit if you want to shift individual notes backward or forwards you get the little boot icon and click on the note yes? Well in the RS you just go into grid groove, highlight the beat(s) and turn the dial to move the note, which for me seems quicker. The (cubase)list edit is almost identical to the RS7k's edit mode (with the same options for filtering out different data types) and moving, inserting, deleting or altering the length of note. I don't know exactly what you mean when you say complex edits, but there are lots of ways to manipulate Midi data on the RS and most of it is realtime. Then there are the more specialised jobs like creating cresendos, extracting notes and strum effects etc which are pretty quick and easy too. Granted it does mean that you have to alter your working methods but once you get your head around it I'm sure that you will be able to get it done quicker.

I've learnt the hard way over the years that there really is no "holy grail" when it comes to music gear and it is a challenging and frustrating process investing time, money and creative energy into a piece of equipment\software that may or may not be suitable for you, nothing is perfect and I guess its just a case of finding out which flaws\bugs\omissions\limitations etc are important to you.

You can switch filters while a track is running, I have flashed my OS to 1.14 maybe thats why. If you want I'll email you the update and some FAQs and tips I got off the net, it might address some of the problems you are having, give me your email addy if you want the files.

Thanks!

nflux1@aol.com

Its clear that youve got the RS down pretty tight. Dont get me wrong I'm not dissing it (I just like to argue )

Seems kinda funny the way it works..but yamaha is known for that, no? like..why "common samples" and "local samples"? why not just have SAMPLES?

beats me why common vs local... dunno

on the drums, its like 1 or 2 kits that that filter bug happens on.. not the rest and not your own samples. a weird one.

www.rs7k.com is the homepage for the ebay group. best resource out there.

just making my first song with it now.

yah do this to get around it (i think) quit using the drum kit you were using and switch off to:

perc
drums
snares
hh+cymb

those kits have all the snares and drums etc from when they are organized in kits.

i think its just a bug in the individual kit. not in front of the rs right now

I listen to the "Untitled..." track. Is that what we're talking about here? Pretty cool track in any case. Like what comes in a somewhere around 1:25.

Yep thats the one, its all RS7000, just wanted to put something together with it to see what its capable of and let other ppl hear something other than the dodgy Yamaha demos, but as it turns out I will prolly finish it off into a full blown track. Obviously the arrangement is a bit dodgy (my 18month old son was running round the studio pulling wires and whacking my gear - kids eh?) but hopefully I will have a proper version up soon. Thanks for the comments
