I've just posted this in the 'tech' forum but have since found the 'synth' forum - DOH!
Anyone have any experience in dealing with sysex downloads/data?
I've been producing music (hard house/trance mostly) using cubase/acid pro 3/soundforge (etc, etc) using bass/synth/drum hits/loops in WAV format downloaded from the good old internet and some of the GM sounds (converted to WAV to add effects etc) but now feel that it is time to move into developing a more personal style by incorporating new sounds.
I have a Korg M1 but have no experience of synth programming and have read in several discussion forums that new patch banks are available for download from the net but there is always mention of 'sysex' data.
Does anyone know what 'sysex' data is and how easy is it to get to grips with?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

If you have Cakewalk or Sonar, it has a sysex editor/librarian in it. You can load your banks from the 'net into it, and have it transmit them to your m1, or you can use it to record a bulk dump of what you currently have from the m1.
