I got sent this company details for flyers (5000 1/4 page flyers for $150) - plus they say they'll beat any advertised price - i dunno if they any good, but it might be useful.

For that price they can't be too great in quality but I'd like to check it out.

with flyers here you get what you pay for. i have paid the same amount of money for everything from 'yah its color ho hum' to 'oh my gosh stick a wick in this flyer its so glossy and waxy'

so the quality is wide wide ranges...

ask them for samples of their work for someone that has done the same exact deal.

Nocturnal Graphics? I know those lads. Can't speak for their flyer quality as I've never used 'em yet, but their design team is top notch. They also do a lot of work with/for a local/regional "club life" mag.... good people....

12 pt refers to the thickness of the card stock. some paper is spec'd by weight, like your standard 20 lb. bond will weigh 20 pounds for a certain number of sheets (I forget whether it's 100 or 1000, it's been a fuck of a long time since I've dealt with this shit) in its mother sheet size which is typically something like 17x22 or 23x35. other papers are spec'd by their thickness measured with a caliper. a lot of those super shiny white business cards are printed on a 12 pt cast-coated paper. or some greeting cards.

OK, the "basic size" for bond is 17x22. When a paper weight, for example 20 lb. bond, is spec'd, that is a "basis weight," that is, the weight of a ream (500 sheets) at the basic size. One ream of 17x22 yields 4 reams (2000 sheets) of 8 1/2 x 11.
