well, hong kong is a 'special region' on account of it recently being a british protectorate that earns billions of dollars of foreign currency

Go live in Tibet. There's a huge disparity between Hong Kong and the rest of China! Now, Tibet is the other end of the spectrum, but a fine illustration of what the Chinesse are capable of.
