If I update my SN2 rack with latest OS, does
it affect current sound sets if I don't update
soundbanks?

I'm middle of recording process and I don't want
sound sets which I have used in songs to be
altered. Also I still wanted to try the new
soundsets which comes with new OS by updating
only efgh banks.

Can I update the new OS without affecting current
abcd bank soundsets?

Only speaking from SN1 experience here but, yes you can upgrade the o/s without affecting your stored banks, in that all the parameters used to make those sounds will remain the same, but if the way these parameters work has been changed in the new o/s the sound may change. In practise I found most of the sounds were identical or were easily adjusted to make them identical. One or two were not however and one sound I found impossible to recreate after upgrading the o/s. If you really need to you can always revert to the old o/s anyway.

I had no pation to wait that someone answers so I took the backups and updated
the system. No bromlems at all. I also updated new sound sets to empty banks and
left the original banks as they were. With couple songs which I tested, everything
works fine.

yeah, i remember when I updated my Nova to 4.0, none of my patches that used square oscillators with width set to either -64 or +63 (which for me were, like, a lot of my sounds) wouldn't play anymore, because Novation decided to get anal about it and decided a square wave with those extreme narrow pulse widths should actually be a DC signal. Thanks! Silent patches are real useful! Now I have to be careful about my PW modulations, too. Swell!

But setting them to -63 or +62 solved the problem. But you probably had that "feature" when you bought the SN2. It's probably just a throwback to us poor Nova users.

Cheers psylicon... you've just solved a mystery for me. A coupl'a patches in the nova that just don't sound off. Old patches I tweaked before the upgrade!
