i really love my mq, can make anything from leads to pads to kicks. maybe lacking in the bass department, at least compared to my 777.

it's not a milli-q (mq). Technically, it's a uq... er... a µQ! Show respect to its diminuitive size.

You should switch because of the effects onboard, wicked sounding reverb! I think thats about the only thing your missing. I dont believe they fixed lfo to midi sync yet. At least I dont even use it.

at least it kind of fixed it on mine. the overall timing of the mq has to be set accordingly to the timing of your track or even better to auto, which syncronizes it to midi clock.

the delay only syncs at certain bpms for me on 2.14 ... they fix this yet? it's really motherfucking annoying.

I know this is really off subject, but you guys seem to know some about micro q's...

im planning on getting a new synth in the next few months and this little shit is in my price range...only played with some waldorf synths and they sound giztastic. how does this one sound? i can't believe the fuckin price tho- second hand around 400ish for a twenty-five voice synth!? so does it really live up to all they hype?

Also is it tough using only the limited knobs they give you, or do you get used to it real quick?

thanks all- you rock

There are a few microQ sound examples on my homepage.

I like the microQ a lot, but it has its very own basic soundcharacter. If possible, you should test one to decide if you like the sound.

The user interface is pretty good. After some practising I am faster in programming µQ sounds than with my Access Virus that has a lot more knobs.
Because of dynamical voice allocation the microQ has 25 voices only on simple sounds, komplex sounds will reduce polyphony. I estimate that you can count an average of 16 voices.

In my setup the synth (with OS 2.20) syncs perfectly to midi clock in terms of arpeggiator and FX-/delay parameters. Only the LFOs don't sync.

it seems to me that my mqs lfos synch to midi clock...this is quite puzzling indeed...os 2.20...

well it seems to be syncing a whole lot better with 2.2 atleast. seems with over 121 bpm it likes to switch from 3/4 to 4/4... strange. lfos are syncing perfectly i think.

broken silence: really i dont think theres a better synth out there in the price range. the sounds really are great, and the editing is really easy once youve gotten used to it (which doesnt take long).

So would it be worth it to pay 200 more bucks or so to get the full rack version?

if you like knobs, yes.

i find the mq quite easy to operate and couldnt care less for knobs or software editors, but it takes a while to get used to. sounds are great for trance btw.

my mq is virtually bug free now, i just tried it now, lfos synch perfectly, everything is cool, id love more and better fx though..

yep. the only real problem i have with the uQ is the fx. id take a better flange/chorus over new filter models at this point.

if you have a decent outboard fx unit i think you could make pretty much any sound you might want to for trance or any other genre pretty much. i can get some really nice strings out of it especially... i dont really make alot of 'trance' sounds though so i dont know if i can really say. i should say that some people dont like the filters though.

if you can get a chance to play with one in a store or something, that would be your best bet for finding out if its the synth for you i think.

inboard fx make life easier, but its the sounds that really matter, and the mq delivers...i should post some of the trancy stuff i do so you could judge for yourself. anyway the chorus and the delay are usable.

a very nice feature of the mq is its very deep arpeggiator, for those nice uplifting trance leads from hell.

the unisono function makes me forget there is a supersaw somewhere...

I once made a sound on the mq that literally made my skin crawl every time I pressed a key. It was really weird. Sounded kind of like a distorted police car on drugs!

here is a little thing i recorded, before my uQ's downfall. just shows a little what the arp can do (random notes are fun) and the filters and junk. filter2 was controlled by the arp velocity settings, other than that i turned all the knobs, didnt use a sequencer or anything. unison is on at about 50 seconds till just before the end. i guess it sounds something like trance.

needs lowend eq cut. i shouldve encoded at a higher bitrate with 44khz, sounds kinda crappy with the filters open.
