Okay I am ranting here. Redundancies, Downsizing, "The company is in turmoil shifting markets, you know the drill. We can't reduce your salaries, because that would mean that we'd have to reduce our own salaries as well as all our old fart cronie mates (some of which earn 350K), but what we can do is line you all up and randomly sack people, not all at once, but slowly, so we can get blood out of stone whilst you all live in fear and depression".

I f*cking hate this, I've recieved a redundancy before, and frankly people it sucked it really does, only because it took forever to find another job (because of the market, you know).

But now some one (my ex-) is being hinted by her employees that she's going, she walks to work everyday in fear, F*CK F*CK F*CK EM!!!

I now do appreciate the role of unions.

Okay rant over.

ah tell me about it. I work for an american investment bank. For the past 2 years they've been cutting back. Made over 10,000 people redundant globally. They changed their redundancy payouts to the minimum as well, 1 week for every year. Lovely. Whilst the board still receive their 6 figure bonus's.

Every bank has been shedding IT staff. So when it comes to employing they know the market is flooded with people desperate for work, so the contract and permanent wages have gone right down. Fucking bastards.

Loads of people where I work have had enough and are looking to escape into something completely different, fed up with the corporate bollocks. And I dont blame them. I wish I could do, if only I hadnt pissed all my money up the wall.

Yeah - that pisses me off too. I'm usually the lone voice around here saying that businesses aren't ALL bad, but when you see thousands getting laid off, and see the CEO's and board members walking off with 7 figure SALARIES, not to mention stock options, it really chaps my ass.

However, if you would care to pick up one of the most recent issues of Business Week, you'll see that many big bosses are NOT talking salaries like they used to. There seems to be a trend towards deflation in upper management salaries. For example, in 2001 (I think), there were 7 people of US companies who brought home over 100 million dollars (US) annually. Last year, there were only 2 people. Many CEO's have actually given part of their salary back.

Did you see the recent one about American Airlines? They were negotiating salary decreases for the flight attendants, and the fa's agreed to significant cuts, and then within a week, the CEO decided now is a good time to show the perks that the board members were getting. So now AA is in the shitter, and it couldn't happen to a better industry!!

Anyhow - what comes around goes around.

"I shat in my bosses draw. Does that count ?"

seriously, somebody actually did that at the place I used to work when they were given the heave-ho. They did on the bosses seat though

it's the same old story anyway - the people at the top make the decisions which get the company into shit, but it's the little man that ends up paying for it.

the key word here folks is S M E A R

actually, the procedure is aptly named a "poop smear".

a simple dump won't do, it'll be easily scooped and cleaned.

the smell of S M E A R

you can draw, be creative

a classic: close your fists, dip the little finger edge side, apply each in alternance to create foot prints. finish off with thumb and index for toe prints. guarateed to put a smile on the faces of those left behind in the sweat shop.

Sucks man but topical.

Having a meeting with my team and the big boss today... hows this for a motivating statement.

"if we don't get this project started and bring int he business there will be less of us sitting around discussing it next quarter"

Our company had 110,000 staff and have dropped to 35,000. Every quarter they announced another 10-20,000 redundancies and we had to wait 3 months to see who was going. Pretty much lost all of my mates....

I'm bloody working now (OK I should be) cos I need to get everything finished and go to the Bahamas on Tuesday for some sun, sand and free booze and no thoughts of the old 9-5.

On the shitting on the desk lark, a few companies ago I had the biggest cunt of a boss ever. I simply used to spit in his tea at every oppertunity. Somthimes it was a quick flob, others a well coughed up greeny....it was well satisfying.

"see the CEO's and board members walking off with 7 figure SALARIES, not to mention stock options, it really chaps my ass"

This whole topic actually strikes directly upon something that has been troubling me quite alot recently. The thing is - and don't get me wrong here, I am on your side - these bosses and 7 figure salary earning CEOs and Politicians are all idiots! You can't argue against it! Those of us who realise this fact also have the ability to shit on everyone, act like ass-holes, and assume bizarre amounts of self-worth, in an effort to get to such a status, but we don't. Why don't more people with their witts about them, do something about it?!? It is the same with bloody protestors! (although, I feel for those who suffer at the hands of CEO's, while I couldn't give a bloody shit about protestors... annoying bastards that they are!) They just sit down and whinge, while not actually doing anything about it. If those who beleive in such causes are so dedicated and intelligent - which I am sure many are - why do they not get the jobs of these idiotic CEO's and politicians, etc, etc, and change things internally, which is going to be infinitely more effective than chainging themselves to trees and gates while getting beaten up by police!?!

My point being: why is it that those who have the ability to change things never do?!?

Sorry, I know I have missed some very major points, but there are so many who want to change the world, and think that all they need to do is complain and wave banners.

Bloody frustrating!!!

Regards.

Steve.

if capitalism was fair, every human being would be automatically issued with so much capital to replace the natural livelihood removed from them.

don't look now, but, hey, you're on a farm.

Like i said in old posts one of the up sides of the old socialism was that once you had a job - you had it for life. Even the labour party (UK)doesn't respect Unions

Steve R you are being naive, protestors are doing something, I am sure you can think of better ways but at least THEY are doing something.

"My point being: why is it that those who have the ability to change things never do?!? " - Because causing change is a 2 way street. As you approach the power to make change so you are changed by the power. I expect you have to demonstrate that you can be 'one of them' before they give you the power

General comment. SUffering in the US due to capitalism hahahaha

Heh... I often find naivety easier to deal with C :P Thing is, I have been on many protests - I even went to two of the major anti-war protests in London - and have found that the protestors are just as ignorant as those they are trying to fight, if not even more so. Both sides are allways well educated with very selective information. The atmosphere of protests is allways quite unpleasant for me. The crowd mentality of protests, I find, is just as blind as that of football riots, just not as violent (well... sometimes). There are many people there who claim to be putting in their whole life to stop whatever the protest is about, but in actual fact they aren't! They just like protesting and don't like what they are protesting against. Then when the protest is over they all go and wait for the news then go and get on with their lives again. It allways seems such a half-hearted effort that is mostly driven by crowd energy.

If, as many historians beleive, Jesus did exist (not as the son of god, or the third prophet, blah, blah), I feel he was on the right path. Use rumour, gossip, etc as a means to create fear in those you are trying to bring down, then act out the rumours and the tales that have been spread so that the enemy are weakened enough for something to be done... EFFECTIVELY! Martin Luther King also used a similar tactic, which is too cause fear!

But then, these methods of forcing change are open to abuse by anyone who feels that they are fighting for something worthwhile. And this brings the question... who is right afterall?

It's all too abstract for me... and protestors are a blind, self-satisfied and annoying lot. I think that maybe I am comfortable enough with my life to actually miss the point of everything. I am just gonna keep building my bunker with solar power and bugger off to make music and drink beer, and leave everybody else to it.   You are all welcome to join me... just bring lots and lots of beer

Regards.

Steve.

Was reading an article saying how the banks are fighting against employee payments if a company goes under, saying that it would stop them from giving out corporate loans, the thing is if they did that then wouldn't they earn less? Couldn't you just walk across the road to another bank, free market?

it's just the way society is structured. no sane white, college-educated person would do what i do.....and think they're gonna be secure in life.
we're all part of the big, huge, cold, grey, and often-quite-ugly structure which is western corporate imperialism.

i guess i'm kinda lucky to have made my way
somewhat sidestepping it. then again....i work my ass off physically so it ain't like i work in a bank. there's always the trade-off.

lost my job a few months ago but with the separation pay built myself a tidy little studio. now its keeping me afloat somewhat.

now im saying good bye to the city and moving to a provincial city near the sea. i just courier my work over to manila. also have some other opportunities there...

sorry my point is i may have found a way to live off the system on my own terms, comfortably, with much less stress...just take from them what i need. their movies, their fashion, their cars, cellphones...

the system, make it work for you
