Original Message 1/5 17-May-05 @ 08:03 AM - Basic Midi Help?
I remember setting up and planning midi connections quite some time ago, but
have now forgotten...I just need to know what i'd need to do, and what i'd need.
So I have this mid controller, right? Then say I have 2 other pieces...maybe an
access virus and a Jp8000.
What type of midi router would I need? a 2x2? more? How would I set that up?
Thanks!
Jimmy

for routing the controller unit AND any of the synth MIDI out's back IN to the PC at the same time (both permenantly connected) you'll need a MIDI MERGE box which can route 2 MIDI signals merged together to one OUT... if you wish to have all 3 units routed In to the pc then you need a midi merge box with 3 in's if such a thing exists (never looked to see if such an item exists frankly)

I had an idea for a script once. It's basically Jaws except when the guys in the boat are going after Jaws, they look around and there's an even bigger Jaws. The guys have to team up with Jaws to get Bigger Jaws.... I call it... Big Jaws!!!

are you using a computer? youll want inputs for all of them so you can record knob movements and the like
I use a Midiman USB 4X4 and its always worked perfectly from day one. $100 or less now.
I would do it like this:
controller keyboard OUT to 4X4 on input a
output a on 4X4 to controller keyboard IN (assuming its not a "dummy" keyboard)
OUT B on 4X4 to synth 1
OUT on synth 1 to input B on 4X4
and so on
this way, youre controlling through the sequencer, and can record midi messages from other synths as well.
entiendes?
