On drum pitch should I be modulating the velocity to pitch so that harder hits are higher in pitch and softer hits are lower in pitch? Is that natural or is it the other way round?

That is how I usually do it on my Virus. Higher pitch and faster on the envelope or LFO.

the drum skins tensions more with greater pressure - more velocity = higher pitch

I had an idea for a script once. It's basically Jaws except when the guys in the boat are going after Jaws, they look around and there's an even bigger Jaws. The guys have to team up with Jaws to get Bigger Jaws.... I call it... Big Jaws!!!
