A programmer who has worked for NASA admits he was asked by the Speaker of the Florida House to write a hidden program to "control the vote in south Florida." Video.

US election was probably hacked

holy SHIT!

I mean...not that I doubted. POLITICS are a fix, in general. Im starting to believe more and more in an anarcho-capitalist system as the ONLY way to truly live.

you socialists fucking crack me up though...you complain about american government (admittedly shameful these days) and yet you champion even MORE governmental power over the most minute aspects of life.

eh? socialists? me neither, balance i reckon is what's needed, the infastructure run by the state out of taxes, the rest, go for it but with profit caps for corps to increase diveristy & investment in new business. Free phones for pensioners too.

...not sporting if you leave em tied up!

Here here K! Something like the Latvians have. Flat rate tax for all (except the very poor), but with no tax avoidance schemes (SIPs, housing national art, etc). Reduce gross pay under current tax to equate with net income under flat tax (so everyone gets what they do now), and the business can reinvest or squander the surplus (money back into general economy).

Just means we'll have to cut back on Millennium domes and invading other countries for a while!

Oh, and pensioners use pigeons don't they?

profit caps? as in, governmental hindrance to success?

errr...where's the logic?

a true free market would "cap" itself because there would be competition.

I'll bite on the "minarchist" angle...MINIMAL government...mainly roads and defense...and I'll even do the 10% flat tax idea IF the spending is publically auditable.

more government regulation does not equal more freedom.

still trying to find more news about this whistleblower thing. part of me saw it as a hoax?

Not really into the profit cap as a limit either. Could be a % cap however. Owner gets x%, management y%, prols z%. There's no cap on how much you earn, just on your take (curbing greed if you like).

If we lived in a utopia I'd agree that competition and a free market would be a good way, though the same could be said for Socialism, and I suppose the best of all in a utopia would be anarchy - no need for rules cos we all 'dig' each other.

Back in the real world, free competition leads to corruption and violence as people are always looking for an edge by bending or breaking the rules (or ultimately winning, dominating all competition - think computer software and media magnates - delivering a self-righteous oligarchy. Same for Socialism with the administrators living it up and the rest lumping it. I've always striven for autonomy (personal responsibility, create your own reality, etc) and hoped to avoid very bad situations that might cause behaviour counter to my aim.

But if we are going to persevere with the notion of society, then the 'minarchist' (apt, like the name) ideas seem good to me. Yes to full public access to gov documents, especially financial. Yes to a defense system, and to funding it from the taxes of the people it is there to protect (Americans should grasp that point), but no to trading in weapons. Build the best we can and keep 'em for our use. Seems insane to profit from arming our (or anyone elses) potential future enemies - but that's a different post.

Institutional regulation doesn't equal more freedom, quite right, so strip out the obscure and privileged regulations, the tiers of admin and state nannying. There are too many hideously sick and/or stupid people to do without some rules and means of enforcement.

A hoax? Americans with humour so close to the bone? I really hope that's true! But somehow...

but thats the thing, in a free market:

"Back in the real world, free competition leads to corruption and violence as people are always looking for an edge by bending or breaking the rules "

there wouldnt BE rules to bend! Ethics, yes, but...

and as for protection...why not allocate that to private companies?

funny...I dont totally believe in this, but...current system is NOT working here.

check out this site:

www.freedomainradio.com

sadly, the admin and the handful of locals are completely fixated on parental issues as reasons for statism, and it gets VERY annoying. I stopped posting actually...but...there are some good ideas

Hi Influx,

Rules and ethics? Semantics.

Private companies such as local gangsters (as opposed to national ones)?

It's not really working here either.

I checked that site...kind of infectious isn't it? Read three unimpressive, ill-considered posts that irritated me enough to comment - then the one about the Aliens from Luxembourg that I really enjoyed and which made the visit worthwhile for me.

Nothing about parenting fortunately.

A great way to further put off doing my last maths paper!

well i think because otherwise one ends up with corporate dominance by a few companies, and as they seek a continual cycle of greater share value with each subsequent annual audit, then inevitably one reaches a point of convergence where it's not possible for shares to rise further without some drastic savaging of the workforce or an absorbtion of their smaller competitors until one ends up in almost a communist state with a few 'state' companies running everything

Like how one company controls nearly every FM radio station in the USA, so you now have just one company pretty much controlling airplay in USA of all popular music, or how we now have 4 labels who prettty much owns every label

I dunno.
