RE: It starts tonight
it's been a wait that seemed forever but finally it's here. tonight is the opening game of the 2010 football season. 5 months of not having to ask, "what am I going to do this weekend?", when drinking beer is given a purpose. had football been around when the calendar was invented the year would have consisted of back to back septembers thru januarys with a week or two of februarys. gone would be mid-februarys thru augusts. it's funny how one word can change an entire outlook on life. we hate hikes in taxes but we love hikes in football. (for any of you who don't know, the center passing the ball between his legs to the quarterback at the beginning of each play is called the hike). for those of us in the know astronaut landings on the moon constituted missed opportunities. because they didn't think to bring footballs with them their landings don't count as "touch downs". and how can there be a europass without there being a euroreception? football is the one sport that remains unaffected by economic inflation. just as it was 20, 30, 40, and more years ago every team still gets a quarterback and every defense still has nickel and dime packages in their play books and if you ask me why the Vikings lost again you're still going to get my two cents. when the founding fathers guaranteed freedom of religion with the first amendment of the U.S. constitution they did so because they envisioned there would someday be such a sport and husbands throughout the land would need constitutional protections to watch it!
