--- i PAnik ------
Hi,
I have problems when syncing the
TB303 from the Drumstation.
The drumstation does not keep up.
So the 303 sounds bad.
Does anyone have similar problems
and hopefylly know a solution?

I have exactly the same problem, I've tried syncing a 303, 606, and a 202 to my drumstation and it never works. I've posted to this forum about the problem but most everyone is to busy discussing the supernova to pay any attention. My guess is the drumstations din sync is not fully funtional, it'll send the start message but the slave tempo is off. I've used several different clock sources, all with the same result. Cakewalk, Cubase, a K2000, and an msq-100. In all cases It lagged. Probably an OS problem, perhaps phil can update that sometime.

I have not had an opportunity to try this yet. You may be right...It may be a bug in 1.3 OS. I sold all my DIN SYNC Stuff except my MC202 wich from memory has DIN SYNC...I am going to be in my studio making more sounds hopefully from tomorrow...I will investigate then.

OK I checked it.

It works. You guys have said it does not work but have failed to give any further idea about what it is not doing so I can only speculate about your situation. It's a bit like saying you car does not start and that's it. The cause could be anything from no gas to a buggered motor.

There are several things I need to know.

Is the 303 syncing up at all?
By this I mean

A/is it stopped?
B/is it trying to be in sync but drifting?

If the answer is A then

Are you really really sure you are transmitting MIDI Clock?

Have you varified this by syncing another MIDI device or Drum machine etc?

(You would not belive the number of people who say thay are sending midi clock and in actual fact are sending it to the wrong port or sending MIDI Timecode cos they dont know the difference.)

If the answer is yes I am definatley sending MIDI CLOCK on the CORRECT port and I have varified this and its still stopped.

Are you using a MIDI lead as a Sync lead?

Modern cheap MIDI leads sometimes only use 3 wires even though the Sync/Midi plug has 5 connections. This will cause the sync messages to not go down the MIDI lead and so it wont work properly.
If this is the case try a Known good SYNC lead.

If the unit is still stopped after this.

Have you checked the 303 syncs to any other Sync equipped unit?

The Sync input socket is like a headphones socket. As soon as a lead is plugged in the Start Stop and sync pulses are switched to the incoming signals rather than the internal ones...only problem is this is mechanical and these units are getting old. I have had this problem before with sync sockets.

This can be varified by syncing the unit to a known good sync source such as a 606 or 808.

Does the tempo knob on the 303 alter the speed?

If the tempo is altered in this way then the sync socket is failing to switch the sync signals over when the sync lead is inserted.

Have the 303 checked.

Thats all folks...

It does work for me.

I thought I was pretty specific but ok, I'll go into extreme detail. I have tried syncing up a 202, a 303 and a 606 through the drumstations sync and they all behave exactly the same. They start on time and slowly start to drift. I've sent the midi start message from 2 different k2000's an msq-100(yes I know it has it's own sync), and two different computers, running cake walk 5.0, 6.0, and 7.0. in all cases, with all instruments, all of my din gear, starts on time and by the 4th measure or so it has begun to drift off tempo.
using the msq-100 sync, all of the gear runs perfectly.

What version of OS is in the Drumstation. Hold down the Audition and power up. It will display a 2 digit number.

Please advise this number

er.... not knowledgable on this area, but, if it's a case of all your s/w sequencers' sources cause drift, maybe it is the frame rate... i dunno .... does that at all influence the resolution of the original midi clock, which in some way maybe alters the whiole sync..... for example if i sync 2 softwares tiogether, i noticed in tests the frame rate (although smpte was not being used) affected the sync of the softwares when clocking to a midi clock .... maybe it's that??

hi,
I have the Drumstation V2 with 1.3OS. When I hook up my TR-707 to the Drumstation, it also drifts off sync. I have not looked at my framerate yet, and I will do that tonight. Also, the DIN-sync cable I am using is a good one. Phil, can you verify the framerate variable? I know mine is set to 25fps using Cubase 3.5. Should we jack it up to 30fps? Or are there any other variables we should be looking at in our MIDI rig? I hope to figure out what I am doing wrong soon. Thanx for any help...

Hi again,
As you may have read earlier, I too was having problems with the DIN sync OUT and my TB-303 and TR-707. I had a technician look at my 303 and he told me everything was working alright. When I got home, I started exploring my sequencer Synchronization Menu in Cubase 3.5 VST. After tweaking with the "Pre Roll" box in the menu(i have no idea what it is)and setting it from 50 to 100, the 303 works fine now. It may not have been that exact fix, but I know it was in the Synchronization Menu in Cubase 3.5VST. So, my advice is to twiddle with your synch options on the sequencer you are using. I know this isn't very clear, but mine works now...all of a sudden. I hope this helps someone out.

you 're right

here are details:
in cakewalk 6.0 -> settings
-> midi output , I'vetweaked " transmit MIDI start continue stop clock "
but I don't know wath to do with other voices ,for instance " transmit SPP "
" locate delay for SPP "
" MIDI output port " " MCC "
" timecode master unit id "

I 've tryed to set in many ways bat my tb , which perfectly works , doesn't answer ,

do iI need 7.0 or 8.0 version ? or it's just a setting trouble ?

My dealer said that a MIDI cable was right for the connections is it true or I need another kind ?

sorry for my macaronic english

your dealer is the problem, he's wrong a midi cable is not nessessarily all you need. not all midi cables have all five of the leads wired inside, because midi dosn't need them all. DIN does need them all, so if your midi cable has only 3 of the leads connected it won't send a damn thing. since your tb isn't starting at all, and the rest of us here seem to be having a drifting problem, I would ges that that is the cause of your problem
