It's rather silly trying to justify all the extra money for a Supernova when you get practically the same thing with the Nova. Let's see, is it worth an extra $1000 dollars for 2 more effects, two more outputs, two more parts, two more banks & a few more knobs? I could buy TWO Novas instead! What's wrong with this picture?

Yes, but for another $600 dollars. Two Novas would bring me close to that & I'd have twelve parts & twelve outs. Not to mention $600.

It all depends, of course,
on how you plan to use your
Nova or SN. If you use many
simultaneous ARPs and a lot
of chords, you're going to
get voice stealing with only
12 voices, which will often
lead to nasty clicks and pops. I've experienced this
many times with my Nord, and
the only solution was to
record a few Nord tracks to
free up some voices. This is not a criticism of the Nord, simply an argument in favor
of more voices. From my own
experience, it was clear to
me that I needed a 32 voice
SN. Now my Nord is happier,
too, since some of the load
has been taken off of it.
If you'd rather split the
load between 2 synths, this
is a valid option, too.
There's no one *right* answer, except the one which
works for each individual.

I agree with you lostwire. The Supernova has to drop in price, else everyone will buy Nova!

I think that the election depends on the userīs purpose, so it is virtually impossible to make a general statement about this. I bought the supernova a few months ago so I donīt know what I would have done if I had then the opportunity to choose. Nova has the same sound quality as Snova; it has a vocoder; it has inputs... and it costs what it costs. But, we lose two parts and some polyphony -However we must take on account that you must pay extra money to have 32 voices on the snova-. So, what? What I think is that next step will be a supernovaII with the mixed features of both machines, the 32 voices polyphony and maybe up to 12-16 parts; that will justify the price snova has at this moment. The Nova will be a great seller, and the sn... but, isnīt there any other difference between them? There has to be something more, there has to be something more... snif. ;)

SwampMan and Lostwire you should have checked out my post back from JAN " SUPERNOVA II ????"
And it said:
When is Novation planing to release the SUPERNOVA II? Making the
One we have or plan to purchase obsolete as in drum stations, bass
stations?

It seems like before you know it, The synth manufacturers release a
second Version instead of giving us updates that work.

Sorry for being a cynic.

Another major difference between the Nova & SuperNova is the amount of memories available. The Nova will have 128 Performances and 256 Program compared to the (unexpanded) SuperNova's 256 Performances and 512 Programs.

Ok... everyting gets cheaper in the electronic buissnes, but not as mouch as the difference in price between Supernova and Nova. The most expensive bit in making a synth must be initial. They have made a great synth (Supernova) and to release yet another like it would be alot cheaper.
The only conclution one could make is that we who buyed the Supernova made it possible for Novation to release a cheaper synth to everyone else...

But SO WHAT?

Look at the PC buissness, it happens all the time with every company.
I think its great that Novation keeps developing new cool synths. To make a synth last longer though, you should make it more like a PC. It shold have expansion slots like som kind of PCI or ISA bus, then they could release an vocoder insert or whatever expansion card. Maby digital output expansion cards...

What surprises me is the idea that people in Novation gave the Supernova little possibilities for future hardware upgrades...

Rogue music now has the 16 voice version of the Super Nova for $1695.00. This in my opinion makes it a very reasonable option in comparison to the competition. I don't know how good the effect are but having 56 onboard effects procesors really comes in handy, especially in electronic music where the texture of the sound is as important as the notes being played.
