Hello,

i have a weird problem with my Midi-cables: After i bought an access-virus
(nice supplement for the sn btw) i tried to reactivate my
Soundcard-Midi-Port as additional Port to my external interface. If i
connect the Soundcard-Midi-Out to my Roland JV or to the Virus everything
works fine. The SN however - if connected to the Soundcard-Port with the
same cable- stays quiet.

What confuses me most is: If I dont connect the SN directly but send the
data on a roundabout via the Roland-Midi-Through the monster awakes !

For I already have some miles of cables i dont need additional
Midi-roundabouts.

Does someone know a solution ?

Sincerely

Stefan

Some PCs appear to output MIDI data at a lower signal strength than normal. The Supernova appears not to like low MIDI signal levels very much !

The easiest solution would be to simply chain your Supernova behind another item of MIDI kit, connecting it via that item's MIDI THRU socket (only one more short MIDI cable required !). The MIDI signal should then be amplified enough for the Supernova to pick up.

its a common thing with the soundblaster midi ports, that they don't put enough hamsters in to pump the midi data out and some instruments including the supernova don't like it much at all.

I've had a similar problem with using a midi through box. Until recently I had the Midi out of the soundcard pluged into my main keboard and then the midi thru from the main keyboard went into the thru box and from there to everything else. That worked fine.

When I bought the SN and changed the setup so that the midi out of the soundcard went directly into the thru box I had problems. I first noticed this when I got my Korg Prophecy back from being repaired by Korg. I tried to send all the data back to set the Prophecy back as it was pre-repair and it kept locking up. Eventually I realised what was going on, as it worked when connected directly to the soundcard.

I also wonder if using a thru box decreases the voltage when you have several things connected.
