Hi peeps - i built the forum for Novation - Phill decided to close it down cos of occaisional stupid posts..... we are still running the Forum at www.dancetech.com..... although I can't vouch for how often Phill will contribute if at all - L8ers - pass this around to anyone who didn't bookmark the actual forum and was relying on getting in via the Novation front-end - feel free to add links (Mickey?)

Novation aren't directly supporting this now? That really sucks...I don't own any Novation stuff, but come here and have a look every now and then. Novation seemed to have it sussed with there tech support doing this, and I thought it was one of the better behaved forums i've seen (tho if it was regularly censored that would explain it). It's not too hard to ignore stupid posts anyway. I just thought Novation were setting a good example, and hoped that other companies might start doing this....oh well, I guess that sort of thing isn't gonna happen.

I am very displeased with the removal of the forum from the Novation site. This was one of the main reasons that swayed my decision in purchasing the SN in the first place. To make this shorter I'm very P.Oed by this, and hope fully with some others.

i agree. it was a definite plus on novation's side that they interacted so openly with users. it demonstrated that they were the kind of company i wanted to work with and buy from. discussions of OS3's tardiness and the competiton's products didn't stop me from buying a supernova32 -- because this forum existed. have some courage, novation! every serious customer already knows about your competitors and will judge for themselves -- we know enough to discount the opinions of those loud, annoying individuals who don't back up their claims with facts. the amount of face you're saving by taking the forum down is outweighed by the face you've lost.

Hey guys, what's wrong ?
The forum is still there isn't it ?
Phill & Kinetik are still monitoring and posting.
As soon as the forum is embedded into
NovaStation they will link to it.
I don't really understand your point.

the point is that it's no longer official. when it was on novation's page, it felt like real communication with the company. now, it feels like an external discussion group to which the company sometimes posts. if there's no difference, then why did phill remove it?

for instance, phill hasn't replied to my question on exponential envelopes posted on the 23rd. back when the forum was on novation's site, phill always replied within hours.

I'm upset! that's it plain and simple. now that the forum is not on novations page anymore it dose feel like an external third-party discussion group. It just makes me feel disconnected from novation.

Yes, Phill, things were better when the forum was in Novationīs site. Of curse this is better than nothing, but, as other people have been saying, it seems like Novation got rid of the forum by the worse way possible, without even having a little bit of courtesy for its users, nor asking for our opinion. The forum gave Novation the image of a democratic company where users could directly talk to the developers of the product, giving ideas and making suggestions in an interactive way never seen before which really gives internet its truly sense. This is what in fact associated Novation with the idea of a modern user- friendly company, a living company, in contrast with the traditional impersonal monolitic- dictatorial companies from which you never knew how to expect. Novation introduced the idea of equality in the relation between the user and the company, and the forum was the key to open this new world of possibilities. When I saw the new page I thought of a stone wall; it seemed like if the living page we had had been in traition elliminated and substituted by somekind of robot called "tech support". Yes, I canīt imagine a better word to describe novationīs acting. As we -the users- contributed to the development of the forum with our attention, I think that it was somehow "our" forum, a common place for all of us, and taking it off without asking for an opinion is a misrespect for its users. At least the forum didnīt dissapear, but we all know it wonīt be the same. Now the forum hasnīt got any protection or real support from the company, so it only will exist in its old sense to the old users which will try to remember as it was before it was unexpectedly "retired". The ellimination of the forum has in my opinion been a backwards step, an awesome error reflecting a tremendous blindness from the company; and it has also been a swindle in the sense it gave people an idea of interaction wich has been demonstrated to be false as when an important decission directly affecting the users was taking unilaterally. I have been visiting Novationīs web page for a long time and sadly this has been the first time I felt that the blue novationīs logo only reflected coldness.

by mistake, in the first line appears "of course", where the correct expression is "of course"; of course the curse was the one which made the help forum dissapear from its original place; I have to thank the enchantment which made it be here.

Ok, I repeated the mistake. Where it appears "of curse" the correct is "of course". I apologize for it.

no java here boys - **** that slow incompatible junk... now Phill dearest I've told you before you gotta get rid of that un-web-friendly, stone-aged, "my olde" mac... :-)

these reply boxes are standard forms... no java or anything is used for them - just standard form.... the CONTENT they send out IS manipulated... but the form you type into is a standard form - if it is slow here it'll be slow on any form anywhere on the web... :-)

Phill - just go directly to

http://www.dancetech.com/chat/chat-nova/threads.cfm

and you avoid all performance problems.

Kilo - didn't you want to send me the necessary HTML to embed the forum into the NovaStation site ?

Hey kilo!!!

If Mac's are sooooo bad howcome
almost all the printers in the world
use em?

A-Cos they work.
B-Cos they are fast.

How many Audio tracks can you pull
on your PC?

Apple state that the G3 is pretty
much twice as fast as a PC running at
the same clockspeed.

I have nothing against PC's but for
computation heavy applications like
Bryce/Photoshop/Digital audio I would
prefer the Mac platform.

However on the PC side...Microsoft
have the monopoly on software design.

PC's are getting faster...the
situation may change soon I feel..

And Apple seem to have lost the
plot...

MIDI is crap on the new USB
interfaces and there is no SCSI so
all the speed for Video/Audio
recording is lost until somebody
delivers the Firewire stuff...

That means total upgrade of all
equipment...computer/HD's/keyboard/Au
dio interfaces and software...

But hey...maybe a spring clean is
due...I've still got my atari 1040ste
with monitor...& SCSI kit Ģ50 the
lot...any offers?

cos they invested in mac's way-back-when and now the whole design/printing system is mac geared - i've no complaint aout that - but for business, e-commerce & the web it's pc all the way - however this still doesnt figure out the form thing being delayed - cos it is a standard form like any other web form - wierd -

true - you gotta get a top end mac G3 to get scsi - so it looks like your getting an audio mac on paper for 1 grand - then you discover you only get a scsi buss mac for over 2 grand - whoops !! - arrrggggggggg !! - and playing Un-Real over the network on the PC is alone worth getting a pc for !! - hasta be done !! - as for that "double-the speed" thing - you gotta remeber that the mac is running RISC instructions like the atari -

i think you'd be shocked to see a new P3 rammed up, running Photoshop4 with a 21" screen and a pair of 13mb graphics accellerators - 26mb total summed ---- and fact, when they ran rendering tests on major pc's the mac failed miserably - despite the falacy that the G3 is a class rendering and graphics machine it didnt come close to pc redering speeds - ... :-) - my brother was trained at college and now works his design company with 4 mac's - and goddam are they ever slow !! - :-) - still... he makes shit-loads of money tho - bastard -- heh heh !!

hey - i'd never get rid of my 1040 either !!.... anyways - I'll be a MAC dealer soon (if i decide to,.. they said i can be if i want to be i just have to send the form in) - so lemme know if you want a new cheap G3 - we can work summat out i'm sure they are pretty cheap @ trade price

by the way i can pull 10 stereo/20 mono audio tracks on a dx100 with 32mb ram with an audio multi-track - never bothered to find out on newer machines, but my mate gets 24 audio VST tracks with direct-fx easy on his 1 year old P2 300 with 64mb and udma drive for audio - they cost about 500 now - (plus he added a matrox graphics accelerator for faster screen draws ((and playing unreal !!!! - hasta bee done :-)))))

i thought a 7100 was a 100mhz unit with a 66mhz buss ?... dx100 is a real oldie - it's not a 100mhz processor the dx100 - it's just up from a dx266
