I have the s/n, and am finding it difficult to create wicked patches, aswell to control the actual synthesis(make the sounds that I imagine). I even at one moment started to thimk that some of the patches on the nova were sample based but that is an insult to Phil, who seems to be a genuine person, so that thought of sample based patches is out the window. What can one study to master electronic music sysnthesis and where, any suggestions......

You can find a short tutorial on Phill Macdonalds site http://www.btinternet.com/~p.macdonald/Voicing/Guide/Sounds.htm.
Maybe a book by wizoo http://www.wizoo.com/shop/WIZBA00001E.htm is of use for you.

Yes. The Wizoo "Analog Synthesis for Newbies" (or something like that) is good for an overall grasp of things. It comes with a CD rom with examples of what is being discussed. And Phils' tutorial is excellent. Beware of stepping on cats. Maybe Phil would find the time to add a second part to the tutorial 8]

Uk.. Portsmouth Uni is famous for electronic music apparently, i beleive the Akai samplers were designed there too...,,, Eno lectures there i think, i think they gave him an honourary degree or PHD or something.... a guy wrote to me from their last year saying he was setting up a new course and asked a few advices... he did offer to have me down as a guest lecturer, i'd better chase that up .... try them anyways... also Manchester, and in London, Middlesex poly does alot of media related courses, try them... but i think you'll get more hardcore 'electronics' included at Portsmouth

y'know, this site really needs a section for synthesis technique with audio examples -

A section for synthesis techniques would be great.

Phil says it all in his excellent piece on sound construction, it takes practice, lots of time spent trying to create sounds.
