I've got a SBLive, CS1x and of course a Nova. But how do I connect these together via MIDI ?

How can I save my patches to my PC ?

SB Live Midi out > CS1x In
CS1x Thru > Nova In
Nova Out > SB Live Midi In

Set Nova parts to channels 1-6, global to 7 and disable 1-7 on the CS1x

Hope that helps.

Whoops, lets try answering the whole question:

SB Live Midi out > CS1x In, CS1x Thru > Nova In, Nova Out > SB Live Midi In

Set Nova parts to channels 1-6, global to 7 and disable 1-7 on the CS1x

To save patches, either set your sequencer to record, or use a prog like Freeloader (on the Alesis site) to receive midi, select the relevant type of send in globals and press the midi button.

Funny. I've got exactly the same setup.
Yes I know, "who cares..."

Err... I think there may be a few problems with the recommended setup above....

Connections:

With the way it's shown, you will never be able to use the keyboard of the CS1x to control the Nova or send midi note and controller messages to the PC for recording.

This (as shown above) will work for saving Nova patches to the PC, but will not allow you to play your Nova or record midi notes to the PC from your CS1x keyboard:

SB Live Midi out > CS1x In, CS1x Thru > Nova In, Nova Out > SB Live Midi In

This will work for Playing both the Nova and CS1x from the CS1x keyboard, and will allow you to save CS1x patches to the PC, but will not allow you to save patches from the Nova:

SB Live Midi out > CS1x In, CS1x Thru > Nova In, CS1x out > SB Live Midi In

You will have to switch the cables or get a midi merger to accomplish both tasks.

Also, You may want to set your channels another way since the CS1x defaults channels 1-4 to the performance sound (you may be able to change this, but I'm not sure):

CS1x Channels 1-9
(This will give you a performance plus 5 material voices)

Nova, Global channel 10, performance parts 1-6 on channels 11-16.
(This will give you all 6 Nova parts, plus a separate global channel for the most flexibility)

Hope this helps,

Sayer
