yes....you can compose on the mc's sequencer...then set the mc as master, and the software sequencer as slave....

for cubase,......select one track...put it in record...but before you start to send the data over from the MC, set the cubase track midi setting box to read: NO

then make sure the cubase is set as a slave....once you hit the record button on cubase, it should wait for the clock from the MC...once you hit play on the mc, the cubase should start recording....

bear in mind, that the mc will remain silent as it plays the data out to cubase...it will not play it's internal sounds...but once it has sent the data over, do the following

highlight the midi part that has been recorded to cubase....remember, it should have been set to read midi channel =NO......Now you perform command REMIX...and after some number crunching, cubase will deposit all the differently channel numbered parts onto different tracks each with sepetate midi channels as for the original.....simple huh...
then just play the MC sounds from cubase....

By the way,,..I got a bit misled by someone at roland....you can edit the MC...but only with sysex...and you must save the new sounds with the sequence as sysex data.....cubese has a mixermap for the mc-303...or you can create your own ..if you feel lucky !!

al sequencers allow the remapping to channels function as far as I know......but this special REMIX function on cubase is specific to cubase...however....if you go to the Twelve Tones(Cakewalk) website, ...there you can download CAL functions.....these will perform various things....one CAL will split all the notes on a single cakewalk track onto different tracks....so for example..if you have a drum track recorded, with all the different notes (kik, snare, hats etc) blended together on one track....SPLITNOTE CAL will seperate all the different drum notes onto new tracks.......so all your kik drum notes for example will then be on a fresh dedicated track.......So maybe they hacve a CAL routine for the function you want........AHA....Just had a look in the programme.....yes there is a Split channel to tracks CAL included with cakewalk5......simply highlight a part/clip......then perform the CAL "SPLIT CHANNEL TO TRACKS"........
