HAS ANYONE BOUGHT AND USED THE OFFICIAL PRODUCT YET? IF SO WHAT PROBLEMS HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED AND WHAT IS YOUR OPINION OF IT?
WHAT ABOUT PC SPECS? I'VE A P100.16MEG RAM AND A AW32 SOUNDCARD. DON'T THINK I'VE GOT DIRECT X . HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO HAVE A DIRECT X DRIVER INSTALLED AND IF SO DOES THIS CAUSE ANY PROBLEMS?

well I'm real pissed of actually, cos I downloaded the official demo release..whereas I had been using the beta....I downloaded it cos I wanted to test out the midi sync thing....which was not working with the alpha version..
anyhow....it wouldn't sync...so against my better judgement, I downloaded & installed thier special midi driver, which they said would guarantee that more than 2 programmes could comunicate .....so I nstalled it....and it did sync...but strangely, the rebirth hogged the audio drivers....so icouldn't get any audio from the sync'd programme.....that was the first bummer...cos i cant run the pc midi & h/d software outputing audio whilst the rebirth is up...
?
but then came the worst.....the midi drivers i installed proceeded to overide ant sysex sends so now I cant select sounds or worst....turn off internall sounds on the soundcard....absolute bummmer......so I went to rid the system of the driver....WHAT!!!,,,....they are not listed in the system......despite being installed & working they just do not appear in the "Sound, video & game controlller" section....DESPITE BEING INSTALLED THERE....

so thats as far as I got....my pc's midi system is fucked.....brillliant....anyhow, I emailed propellorheads with a grrrrrrrrrr email....now I'm real suspicious, cos NO programmes that are any good should do this.....I'm waiting for a reply...and hope I can sort it out.....

anyone else have problems with the programme hogging audio or the driver shagging the midi system???....I never had these problems with other programmes except for that bloody Koan rubbish !!!.....

ok....well I wrote the above reply from my mates machine over the other side of town....now it's moinday morning...I've been thru all the sysedot files...and manually deleted all the lines refering to the drivers......but...

Alot of newer users are not going to find this
....so I think it would be very wise for Steinberg/Propellorheads
to include an Uninstall.exe file so users can easily rid
the system of these drivers & the programme.....also
....why are these midi drivers invisible to the win system lists.....??
....now we just have these 2 problems...Rebirth will be a
complete failure if you cannot run other audio with it
......then we've got the midi screwing problem
....basically....it was overiding or diverting any
sysex data going from either the sysex writing
programmme, or sysex sent from the sequencer to the
DB50XG......these definately need sorting out I guess,
because whats the point of being able to clock the
rebirth to your programmme, if then you looose your vocal
audio , or whatever audio is needed....

So....I'd say....great little freebee programme for making some 303 lines and recording them to your sampler or dat......but you cannot seriously charge 200 quid for this unless these problems are sorted.....this is not a dig at proppelorheads alone.....But I just find it incredible that companies can release software with such rediculously obvious faults, and yet how can they not have seen this problem after a few test runs....especially simple stuff like the drivers not showing up in the system lists.....I just cant figure how no-one could have seen this........

well....I've calmed down a bit now.....so there ya go anyhow,,,,you cant have audio from rebirth & from the Midi & h/d software...so its record to .wav file if you want to add rebirth to your midi & audio tracks.......as for the dissapearing drivers....delete the file MIDLPBK.DLL from your windows system dir/folder......I think the best way to use this is to record the audio across to h/d or sampler...thing is then, with programmes like hammerhead giving you a proper dance drum sound, is the 200 quid worth it for a 303 software ??.....maybe there will be a cheaper one along....personally for the dosh, I'd rather have a hardware TSB-303 which are like soundwise the same, but about the same price....if only the rebirth was a bit cheaper...like around 100 quid would be ok...

So rebirth has been out officially now. Has anyone
bought the full product and can they give their opinion
on its worth and shortcomings?
The latest demo has an uninstall programme Kilo,so
they must have listened!!!!!
The price is £145 new,not £200.

When I got my hands on the full version I thught this is gonna be so cool. Strangely you have to have the disk in the drive when you start the program.
The Rhythm section sucks big time even if you put it through a compressor and an enhancer.
Kilo is correct in saying one should stream to disc.
The two 303s are great, What more can I say...

Agreed......what really is the fuck-off....is that on the propellorhead site, they say that the 808 & 303 are being used together as the main techno tools for years....which is kak...it is 909.....for me this is the letdown, the drums are 808 mostly unusable.....if only they made a 909 version it would be cooler......

OK, but there still 303 pixels ! , How about some hardware , maybe a Knob box , so its easier to tweak rather than trying to eratically ram yer mouse up and down trying to get a fix on the filter knobs etc , then it will most defenetly be worth 200 quid !

a knob box is a good idea, me@steinberg... although i'm
not too keen on the idea of additional hardware (i'm short
on ports available)... i was thinking some way to assign
the modulation and pitch bend wheels on my (albeit OLD)
kawai k1 to specific knobs... but then ya got that delay
issue... *sigh*

MY DREAM SOFTWARE:
It needs a knob box, which interacts through midi, 2 303's, one 909, a drum machine where you can put in your own samples, and a synth like a Juno or Moog which you can load your own samples and use the filters! (both?) And it's free ninty nine! Then maybe!!!

Personally, I'd love it if it had a choice of a few more different drum machines and synths, and being able to choose which 3 you'd like to use. I'd also like to see a Minimoog, Pro 1, 727, 909, DMX, MC202 etc, etc.

My demo version clicks a fair bit when there's a lot playing. I don't think I've set it up properly originally. If I ever use it I'll probably just sample 303 lines off it.

I agree! I absolutely think that they should make another version with a Roland TR909 instead of the 808!
The you could make music like "Hardfloor", they are barely not using other stuff than 2 303´s, a 909 and a sampler (sounds so anyway!)

well I can understand the logic of this thinking if we're talking a massive 400 quid for something overpriced like Wavelab.......but it's a bit sad to get a crack for a programme which costs only 15 deutchmarks.........that is well sad you tight git........Like, these D-Lusion guys are just at Uni, and are into techno, and made the programme, and set a real-cheap musician friendly price so everyone can get it.........and still you think it aint worth sending them a few dollars.......well sad mate, well sad.....

I tihnk it's mainly Rebirth these guys are after, I mean Steinberg are still gonna make money. Steinberg just need to get their act together and start putting some decent copy protection in their programs. 90% of Cubase users I know use the crack versions, even in a number of commercial studios. As for Rubber Duck, I wouldn't mind buying it if there was a safe and secure way to pay for it.

i wouldnt pay 200 quid for rebirth, its just not worth 200 quid, £50 is about right, These companies deserve what they get when they try and release software that is clearly not worth its money and people crack it, take microsoft for example, they release office 97 for SHIT loads of money , then take it off the shelves because of a million bugs reported (fucking idiots), anyway , my point is , drop the price , and there WILL be less piracy!

well is that actually accurate.... I agree in theory...but check the oposting above.......the author is saying he is using cracks for programmes costing only 20 Dm.....(very cheap !!)......so I dunno.....maybe steinberg think...."oh well we lose 60% sales to cracks......so we put a high price to make up the shortfall".....maybe !!

It is really sad to see companies being ripped off. Also sad to see some authors who wrote music software for free to be lured into money traps like Steinburg.

Kilo: If Steinberg were used the opposite logic, i.e.
"oh, why don't we sell rebirth at £500, coz then people
are really gonna wanna buy it...", everybody would be happy.

I mean, Bram Bros has managed to make a great comp. drum-machine
, and he's not asking any money for it....But I am willing
to PAY for rubberduck, wavesurgeon, stomper(free!), and hammerhead(free!)
since they're not asking insane prices, in fact, everybody can EASILY afford it..

It seems there's some kind of coalition against Steinberg.
I've seen a number of Steinbergs' software floating around

This should put the "all software should be free"
moralizing going on here in perspective. If someone can
get paid to make cool shit, more power to 'em -- more
cool shit for us all.

Quoted from the HammerHead info page:

-----
Some serious stuff:

Hey, PropellerHeads, check this out: I do
it for free... No save-disabling ! Say hello
to your friends at Steinberg - I hope you
have fun with your Rebirth (and get rich
with it).

Hey, D-Lusion dudez... You're my kind of
people. Do crazy stuff for the millions !
Maybe we can team up some day. I'm
looking forward to those new Zerres
apps you're working on...

Bye - have fun...
