i'v got loads of wav samples and stuff (drum loops, 303..) but the BPM are either unknown or different is there any software -shareware pref. that can do this- if not why because you can get hardware modules that count the beats for crappy DJ's who cant mix to use!

You can do it with a standard midi & audio software,...
if you have a software sequencer/audio programme such
as cakewalk, load in the wav file,
go into audio page, then increase/decrease the
tempo until the loop plays....then you have your tempo

or....download that rubberduck software....
you can import a loop into it,
then hit play on the loop....hit play on the 303 (with no sequence loaded)
...set the tempo until it loops perfectly, then you have the bpm

If it's a one bar sample at 44.1 khz, get a calculator and type in 10587700.
Divide this by the length of the sample- eg 113456. This would give you a tempo
of 93.32 bpm. my kind of tempo by the way.
