I'm after a new desk and those that I am considering are as follows :-

Mackie 1604 VLZ S/H price around £600
Spirit Folio F1 New price £349
Studiomaster Proline gold 16:8:6 S/H price around £500

Any views or personal experience comments on the above would be
appreciated.

Also, anyone got a shit hot sampler for around £400 mark, 'Cos
my MS-1 is donald ducked - I mean, totally, curtesy of Stella
Artois!

Cheers...........:-)

Go for the Mackie! Mackie's quality, reliability, flexibility, and sound are excellent. I have a 1202 VLZ and it is great. Ask any pro and they'll say that Mackie is very good. Very posh.

The eq's really fat.

I must jump on the Mackie bandwagon too - I've got the plain
old 1202 (non VLZ) and it's the quietest damn thing I've ever
heard!

I've got a 1604, a 1202, and a 24-4 bus Mackie so I'd
go with the Studiomaster. No actually I did consider
the mixdown classic but got my third Mackie insted. They're
dead quite, the Mackie people are funnier than hell, great
eq and those totally great low cut switches kick arse.
Also, you can't tear them up. I've flown my 1202 all over
creation (it's lived in England and Korea for example) and
my 1604 has been all over USA (actually my old Hill
Multimix has been all over the place too and not given
me any problems). But you can't go wrong with Mackie.

Cheers for the feedback!!

Yeah, I tried the VLZ the other day at Digital Village.
What can I say? Quieter than an angel's fart, smoother
than, Donna Derrico's left breast, and Kicks arse like
no other. Cool.

Job done, wonga out - desk bought. Yes!

What about the Behringer board? According to Mackie, Mackie
has sued them for product copying or whatever. I've heard
that the Behringer's are just as good as Mackie's for about
$300US less on most models. (hey, $300bucks? Thats another
power amp!) The one I'm looking at for just studio demo work
is one of the smaller units. 20 inputs, all the usual output,
2-buss, for only $259US! Tough to beat!

It's a bit late now, the guy's already bought the desk, besides, I've heard from industry people that the Behringers don't sound anywhere near as good as the Mackies. The eq isn't as warm or something like that.

I was thinking about the Eurodesk fore I got my Mackie, but
I was told they're made in China rather poorly (they're
effect units are made in Germany). I love the in-line
monitoring on the Eurodesk, but has anyone pushed one
off the table or dropped it out of their truck and see if
it will still work? A Mackie would...Features don't mean
shit if the fucker goes down when you need it. Just
wondering if anyone has had "hands on" with one of these
boards?

David, I know what you're talking about. At least the Mackies are made in the same complex as they're designed in.

yup...I remember the 3 years I worked on live PA systems..
..we were always throwing our desks off trucks,...
.kicking the desk up & down the road.....
dropping it off stages etc etc......and of course ...we never used any flight cases (!!!).

I wasn't aware of the "China" thing, that makes a big difference
in my decision, although the 16 input,2 buss, $259 model might be good for using
for a keyboard mixer. Has anyone checked out the Carvin boards? I got a factory
catalog a few weeks ago and although I've heard to stay away from their power amps
I haven't heard anything about the 16 channel, I think 26 input, 4 buss board that
they offer for $899US. It has DSP on board as well! Hell, Gregg Allman had his
picture taken with one!(YeeeeeHaw!) The newer Yamaha boards are suppose to be DAW
friendly as well as wallet friendly. Any comments?

WTB a mixer - two qu's

1) Experienced mixers...for dance does swept mid EQ make a signficant difference?
2) What do you think are the pros/cons of buying a mixer S/H?

I'm looking at the Mackie 1404 ( new) at 399UKP. I don't want to spend more than 400UKP max but I do want the best I can get for the money (obviously).

What are your thoughts....?

Thanks

Hi! the 1604 is pricy for my budget. What about
Spirit F1 vs Mackie 1402 VLZ?
Which one would you choose for a midi setup?
