rather than an intel.
apparently the awe gold card requires the intel chip to use fully.
is that the case? does any one know about the turtle beach tropez+?
i'd appreciate help on this;essentially I want to use the pc for
sampling and playing back sequences of my own devising rather than
rom cards like yamaha's 'recent' sw60 etc....

they are a german/UK company...based in Wales over here
....goes up to 64 MB sample ram....synth etc....
and you get S/PDIF...and you get 4 outputs....
so you can have one pair for the sampler,
and one for the pc audio.....
or the Turtle Beach Pinnacle....
again a sampler & high quality soundcard,
but the S/PDIF is extra, and there is only 2 outputs
.....
I recommend you check out the Terratec....
It will be fully supported as they work with steinberg,
and the distributors are Time & Space...
the CD people who are fitting PC's into music shops
with the card fitted inside, all configured, ready to run
for demo's....plus you get a free Steinberg Cubasis
Audio with it, that you can upgrade to cubase 3.5
(with free VST)......
I wouldn't really recommend the awe cards given the choice....

problem related to non-intel cpu's, especially amd and
cyrix. i'm running a cyrix 6x86 p-120+, and i overclocked
it to p-150+. i have not had any problem with hardware
or software incompatibilities, and i do some pretty intense
stuff (not just midi). and amd processors are no different.
usually when you see something saying "use intel or it won't
work", intel payed the company to say that.
oh yeah, and i wouldn't recommend an awe card either. their
sampling rates can't even go past 44.1x16bit!! i've got
an opti chipset that's sb compatible, and it goes up to
48x16bit. i bought it new off of auction web for $50.00.
always look for a higher-than-44.1 sampling rate; it
gives the card some breathing room so it won't crackle and
max-out when recording at 44.1.

.agreed about the awe....they are pretty crappy, but ok as a cheap starter card....although if you dont wanna take advantage of the sampling capabilities of the awe, then I'd recommend a Turtle TBS-2000 as a starter alternative...(better audio).....
but dont agree about the sample rate....
.yes 48 gives more heqadroom, but then you have duff rate for doing direct to dat transfers....
...what you need to end up with is a 44.1 master to go to cd....otherwise, you've gotta sample rate converted it.
