I'm mixing an album down for mastering and printing off of an AWE 64 Gold. I know that 1/2" reel is very good, but only 1/4" is available. Should I rent a DAT or use the 1/4". I would rather use the tape machine for the nice analog tape sound, unless it is that much worse than the 1/2" reel.

Because the reel is $25 and to rent a DAT would run me about $100 + $100 down! Should the 1/4" be fine?

whew.....can you take your pc into a studio to mix down??....1/4 inch will be ok, if it is a quality machine.....set-up right.....but will not be as good as 1/2 inch.....if it's a cheap machine, then dat would be better....also depends on the quality of the original sounds & the type of quality you're after for the product....where are you located??

I'm from Dayton, Ohio, US. What a pile of shiznit! The machine is quality, I think. Well... it's Otari after all! My AWE 64 Gold has a digital output, so if I was to rent a DAT, could I record to that and use it as a D/A converter for the 1/4"? That would be da' bomb!
