Kilo - top, top, top site. Can't tell you what
a good resource it's been for choosing kit and
learning, uh, whatever ... thanks.

Here's my problem. I've a home studio geared
towards producing dance (okay, a bit generic) and
I'm using Event 20/20 monitors (I know, you don't
need proper monitors ..) BUT the sound field
varies considerably throughout the room.

I'm sometimes working with nasty, angry bass
sounds and, well, they're hardly evident in the
middle of the room but the corners are going
berserk.

The room is roughly square, carpet floor, the
monitors are positioned on proper ear-height-
when-seated stands positioned along one wall (no,
really???) a couple of feet in from the corners.
Uh, what else? They're on proper stands, at
seated-ear-height. Nothing absorbant on walls
(simply painted).

I'm also wanting to put wooden flooring in but
this would likely make the situation worse.
Soundproofing isn't too important; I just want to
improve things (cutting down the bass outside the
room wouldn't be so bad though).

Okay, shitloads of info., but hey, what can I do?
If anybody has any suggestions/advice, be good to
hear it.

Thanks for your help ...

James

WELL, STUDIO ACOUSTICS IS A NIGHTMARE FIELD, AND ONE WHERE BIG MONEY CAN GO DOWN THE DRAIN.......Bass is always accentuated in corners, or next to walls, but without seeing the room, here's a few things.....

on the walll to left & right of each speaker, add an acoustic tile, or two, to break up reflected sound bouncing back into the center field.....

if possible put all your shelving on the rear wall behind you facing the speakers, this helps to break up waves reflecting back from behind......

other than that, without knowing anything about the location & room construction, there's not alot I can say......need more details really.......

Okay, you asked for it, the shitiest diagram you ever
saw (how bad does this look) ...

K - keybd stands etc. S - speaker

Sorry for the time - I really wanna get this cleared
up though. Room is in a flat of concrete construction
(above & below), standard brick built walls, plastered,
painted. There's not really anything in there to soak up
noise, not really anything on the walls either. 21" PC
monitor occupies considerable space on desk corner but
is the only real obstruction to noise travel. Well, ish.

Any further thoughts would be appreciated, or, if you
know any suitable acoustic companies around London
that'd be great. Where are you out of?

Thanks for your time and a tremendous site.
