The origin of Santa, was that the Swedes had a patron saint of shipping or maritime or whatever....... hename was pronounced SINTA CLAUS....... Her originally came from the middle east through connections with the persians Turks and arabs..... hence the baggy pants and calf length boots, beard, hat and big belt etc which have since been exaggerated for stylisation... I think the image of santa we all know probably stems from someone like Norman Rockwell circa the 30's....... this apparently is true....... so sinta claus (saint nicolas) became santa claus.......

uh, Kilo, if you want to get technical, all the Halloween festivities originated in Central and South America, long before US's domination of early media. Mass-media depends on commercialism, and Brits' understanding of this matter is well evident in the Prodigy and the Spice girls.
I hope to god you don't tell your kid that version of Christmas, 'cause I've lived in Norway and Sweden, and their celebration of Christmas is perhaps one of the most charming cultural events in the world.

I guess, because the kids these days don't have firecrackers, halloween is probably the next best thing apart from Christmas and Easter.. I reckon this sucks, fireworks are much better than throwing a sheet over your head and annoying the crap out of your neighbours.
As for Santa, did you all know that he got his red and white colours from Coca Cola? If you ask me, Pepsi should do their own Generation Next Santa and add blue to his colour scheme. Either that, or return to the traditional green.

We had a bloke dressed up as Santa at one of our company christmas parties. I went up to him, completely intoxicated I might add, and suggested that I sit on his lap so he could empty his sack !!!!!!!!!!
It was only later on I found out that the twat in the red hat was actually the top director of the company.
Personally I love this time of year, especially tonight as I've just gone out and bought £200 worth of fireworks to celebrate Guy Fawkes night. The best trick is to leave a lump of dog shite on someones front door step with a lighted banger in it. Ring the bell and then when the poor unsuspecting houseowner opens their door they get pebbledashed in dog poo. Highly amusing, jesus I am a sad twat, its these alchopops you know.
