Erm... What sequencer would you people recommend
for writing breakbeat music and doing live shows?
Will the Yamaha qx-5 do? I can't find any info on
it, except that it's CHEAP! How big's the memory,
etc, etc...

Yeah, and I was wonderin' if there are any good budget
level sequencers that are especially good for Jungle, particularly Techstep... I am on an extremely tight budget
and i barely know anything about sequencing and that type of shit... Played with the MPC-3000 the other day at my local music shop. I have to say that thing is fucking amazing... a ways off from my budget unfortunatley...
whatever...

the best 2 hardware sequencers I can think of that you can get cheap secondhand are the Roland MC-500 (Mk1 or Mk2)... and the Yamaha QX-5 or QX-5 FD....... it's better to get the FD, cos of the built in floppy storage..........they are harder to find tho'

Both the roland ones have a DD............. if you cant find a qx-5 with a fd, then I guess you could load up from your pc, with a midi sysex dump.....

both sequencers are rock-solid, ....... dunno much about the rolnd, but the yamaha has MACROS, which act like group tracks on cubase, each macro, can be a drum beat, phrase, hookline or whatever, ... you then simply install these Macro events at positions along the track for fast working, and memory saving.....qx-5 also has 8 tracks with 8 track buttons, which you can switch on & off as it plays, or have each track on a dedicated track button for gigs.... or whatever..... they are both cheap, and efficient..... add that to a cheap sampler from the Budget mdidkit section, and your off...

What about the Alesis MMT8? It's fairly cheap second-hand, and there's quite a lot of them around...haven't tried one though - just thought I'd mention that it does exist...

later...

yup... that one is cheap too...... if you cant find a h/w sequencer with a floppy drive, then you can as I said dump from your s/w sequencer, or get something like an old alesis datadisk unit, I had an old yamaha FDD 2.8 disk unit with my QX-5....... worked, but the disks are bloody expensive if you can find 'em..... although, now they are not really sold new, you can pick em up cheaper......

Does anyone know of any hardware sequencers which can record control data, I know Cubase can do this but I'm not sure about hardware sequencers.

they can all record controllers..... but beware, this is a surefire way to use up tons of mamory... if possible record it in cubase, then thin out the data, then export to hardware unit

hey tho....... if you can find one, get a yamaha QX-1.... the mega hardware unit with built in dd etc..... monster !

Kilo,
What about the Akai S-950? I saw one for sale in the classifieds today. I think they're mostly used for rap, but what about jungle? Anyway, whats a good second hand price for one in good condition(american, sorry)?

And what about the kawai Q-80? I can have it for 95 $, and
it's 32 tracks! It looks pretty interesting, but I can't
seem to find any information...
