I think Sedusa reffers to the Philip Rees "LITTLE MIDI/CV" converter. Yeah, it's cheaper than kenton's stuff and it will work perfectly with thw SH2.
You CAN transforms MIDI controller data to CV and control the cutoff frequency of an analog synth if the converter have a dedicated auxilliary CV control output (I don't remember if the Philip Rees unit have one, but Kenton's units usually presents this kind of connector) and if the synth to be contolled have a cutoff CV control input (again I don't know if the SH2 have a CV input to control the cutoff frequency, ask Sedusa for this info).
ALso PAiA have a MIDI/CV converter that comes in a kit and features several modes of work with lot of outputs for CV control (about$100).

Maybe JKJ Electronics?

Doesn't seem these have the same features as the Kenton, but...
There's also Encore, but I think they're more expensive:

I have the Kenton Pro-2000, and I like it just fine. It runs
my Mini and my MG-1.
Good luck!

the encore expressionist is a fine machine, and is cheaper (i believe) than
the feature-comparable kenton pro4.
the encore's firmware is easily upgraded via midi; don't know about kenton.
encore's tony karavidas is easily accessible re: new concepts for upgrades.
(and he's a nice guy and a brand new daddy!)
and for serge owners: sound transform systems has a mod involving installing
the serge power ground directly to the expressionist; it's got something to
do with grounding the serge to the digitalia in the
expressionist. perhaps it eliminates most if not all potential noise/stepping
problems associated with midi/cv machines. check sts for details.
i upgraded from pro2 to expressionist and have been, obviously, quite pleased.
highly recommended...about $600 for 8 channels cv/gate, 3 global lfo's, poly
cv mode (which i haven't used yet), etc.
