right now I am using an old SB 16 card which is not owrking that well. I have saved up some loot now, and am gonna get a new card. First off I just have some general questions.

Should I look for a card with good analog Inputs, or should I get an external A/D converter and just get a card with Digital I/O.

Depending on your suggested answer, what card should I get. If I should just focus on the card and nothing external I would really like either RCA or 1/4" inputs, cause those 1/8 inch piss me off. Or what card has pretty good analog with digital also.

I will mainly use the card for recording. I would most likely mix down b4 I record (with my Mackie mixer) or else, if there are some cards with multiple inputs, maybe that would be better. I don't know that much about sound cards so your advice would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanx alot,
D2K

I'm using a Gina and love it. 1/4 analog 2in 8 out,
D/IO, a sturdy break out box, clean on my system.

Hi,

I'm building a small home studio right now and i'm really tight on budget.

My actual setup is:

Pentium 133 with 32 meg ram and 2.1 gig HD
SoundBlaster AWE32 with 8 meg RAM and tons of SoundFonts (some real cool)
Kawai K-1 keyboard
Kawai Q-80 sequencer
Roland SC-33 SoundCanvas module
Fostex X-26 4 tracks tape recorder
Boss Digital reverb pedal
Boss Flanger pedal
Peavey MAX 100 guitar effects processor
Charvel Model 4 electric guitar
Alvarez acoustic guitar (real cheap one)

My main goal is to be able to do digital recording. My AWE32 is real bad at
doing this because it can't do full duplex.

Should i change it for newer soundcards like the Guillemot HomeStudio Pro64 or
the Hanmesoft Soundtrack 128 ruby??? Should i keep it and buy an analog to
digital card like the ones from Event1, GadgetLabs, Midiman or TurtleBeach
(fidji model)???

For more harddisk space, what would be the best: a CD-burner or a Syquest
Spar-Q (Iomega Jaz drive)???

Any tips, tricks and advices welcomed.

Hope to hear from all of you soon.

JB

You should get a SyQuest Syjet SCSI. 1.5 GB!!! The only problem with the SPARQ is that it is only PARALLEL which is WAY TOO SLOW, SCSI is the way to go! HEHE

Ne way I was looking at the GINA and I really like it except I dont need all the outs! aLL I would really like would be something like that, with a breakout box, without so many ouputs. Also can u run a mic through the GINA or do u have to run it through a preamp first?

Thanx
