Ive looked around at websites & such, and I cant find any mention of this, so I thought I'd ask here... Can the S5000 accept an internal hard drive? IDE or SCSI?

Thanks,
-scrotalsack

from what i've found, yes, but akai
don't seem to want to let you know
about it. it's scsi, and it's not easy to
find a compatable one supposedly,
I'm just getting one now, so I'm trying
to find more info. I'll let you know if I
do.

Peaceout,

Peter

I got thes from the akai list archives,
this gives you a type of HD that'll
work, and how to install it.

Peaceout,

Peter

well, thank you peter for finding the detailed instructions! That saved me a whole bunch of time. I was originally just asking if it was possible, like if it even had an internal connector for a drive. but that saved me several steps!!! thanks!

on a side note, does the sampler care about what kind of memory you put in it? (Fast Page vs. EDO)

I've heard it prefers FPM to EDO, that's what I'm getting. It's funny, my sampler hasn't even arrived yet and I've got all the research done, picked up 2 64meg FPM simms, and am looking for a HD now.

Supposedly any of the seagate barracuda drives that the serial number is ST3xxxxN will work theres a 9.1 gig one that goes for about 125 on ebay usually thats in that serial# range. The next thing will be a CDrom drive.

Peaceout,

Peter

hi, resurrecting this topic.

i have an internal hard drive to put in but haven't got a clue what the jumpers are all about.

i've no instructions with it (hitachi model dk326c) but i've got some jumper information from related sites.

the trouble is, i haven't got a clue what to do, any advice?

Set it to a SCSI ID other than what the
S sits on, I think they sit on 7 -
usually that's the SCSI controller ID,
so just make sure you set the SCSI ID to
a free channel in your chain (ie if you
have an external Zip on ID 5, and the
S5k is on 7, use any other open ID).

Try not to use 0 - if you have a
computer hooked up to it it will try to
boot off that drive. Many drives come
like this by default.

With the USB option though I'm not sure
why you'd SCSI your sampler to a
computer any more.

it's a scsi internal hard driver for the sampler. the s5k will be linked via that greaty usb option as you say.

it's just i can't get the internal hard drive to communicate with the sampler before i install it inside.

is what you mention referring to installing the hard drive in the sampler?

jumpers are a right pain if you don't understand them.

Do you have a document that tells you
what jumpers do what? Email it to me
and I'll see if I can't help you out.
