Well if u don't remember I don't blame you. I haven't posted in a while. I've been working on this track
called medicine tube for quite some time.. I've written it and re-written it twice now! lol. But I tink I finally
have something solid down, that I will be releasing soon. I've recently entered the very cool world of vocal
editing. I went to NH on vacation and brought my portable studio w/ me. (G4 powerbook, firewire sound
card...etc) I had my little sister (who has an incredible voice) record some vocals over a 2 track of medicine
tube, and man did I have fun with that. From that point on, whenever we were traveling in the car or on an
airplane I was just going crazy editing her vocals. Anyways here is a clip of some of those edits. I always
love sharing my tunes whether they are finished or not. Always like to hear other opinons and suggestions.
Any feedback would be appreciated. Negative or positive...whichever. PEACE!

-Kapok

this is a very nice lush piece but i'm a bit in agreement w/rags as to the need for added eleMENTs=MEN+AL. i'm assuming your sister's voice adds considerably towards this end.

you did one of my favorite pieces about a year ago....and there was simply tons of energy there.
this clip sounds a little pre-fabbed. not that it's too mellow but that it could use a little edge.
again...the missing 6 minutes.....please.
perhaps playing with that drum a bit....again a splash of filtering or something.

definitely off to a ripe start.....the music itself is pleasant enough.....now trash it with minor bits of attitude and we have the mighty kapok back w/ us @ 7161?
i say woohoo.

So...someone just told me to look at 7161 charts and I'm shocked...somehow I made it to #4 with
a 2 min clip of an unfinished track. Is that chart 4 real? or is that some kinda joke. Are u guys
voting for that...or is it like any old wanker can vote? Do u have to be a dancetech member to
vote? cause I sent the link to some other people...maybe they voted...I dunno I'm totally
confused...wonder what it will place at when its finished. anywho just curious. Thanks for all of
ur support....I actually got a little more support then I bargained for, but the positive vibe can
never hurt. somone let me know wtf is goin on! ha! later

well if your friends voted, and some of us voted, all in a short period of time, its more than possible. its like voting on good faith that the rest is just as good as those two minutes

i cant figure out why my techno thingie has been up there for like two months now or something either... *shrug*. maybe the chart is broken or something

Yup, this is nice.. very soothing. Love what that vocalish slash pad'ish thing is doing along the way.. nice details.. (some mod delay?). Bit short it is but I likes.

so if your track is so unfinished how do you know that it's actually 8 1/2 minutes long?

and are you sure there's really vocals?

i think you're hiding something from us.

wtf? You can have a start and an end but not be finished with whats in the middle (edits,
mixing...etc) thats how I knew it was 8.5 min long. I mean I'm writing music, creating art, not
trying to cover up watergate or a murder. Why would I be hiding anything? Why would I go out of
my way to hide shit??? thats crazy! lol!

Well if u really must know I extended the end of the track by a min to be a little more DJ friendly
(mechanically) after I took some advice from my friend that is a DJ, but shouldn't I have the
freedom as an artist to do whatever the hell I want? Just because I added another minute to the
track and didn't make an announcement about it doesn't mean I'm hiding it from anyone, I didn't
know that I was required to report my every move.

Do vocals have to be lyrical vocals to be vocals? Not sure what ur getting at here...maybe ur
the one hiding something...like ur real questions or intent. I'm confused by all of this beating
around the bush business. But again if u must know...and I thought I already explained this to u
but maybe not... The orginal plan was to have my sis record vocals over the track but time did
not permit, and she was not prepared (I'm in Florida, she is in New Hampshire 1,500 miles
away) so with the short time we did have I had her harmonize over the 2 track and I did some
edits on her vocals...but I dunno if that answers ur question even still. Possibly u are trying to
say that I should not address her vocal edits as 'vocals'? Cause last time I checked artist were
free to do whatever they wanted to do...thats why they call it art. Pardon me if I sound a bit
annoyed, but ur questions come across very confusing and not really to the point. Say what u
gotta say, and be clear...u won't hurt my feelings if u don't like the song...its not for everyone.

peace
cary

calm down carey~man.....
i posted that thing sept 21st...(like almost 20 TWENTY days ago)......at almost the precise moment you finally uploaded your nice extended mix which i gave you props for
(which i thought was strange but a powerful coincidence and truly to your advantage that almost within an hour of my post you uploaded your new version....quite frankly it was very much like okay...touche` for you my man...kapok's point).....but YES i was indeed baiting you on to
get that mix up because it showed potential and i thought 5 weeks of you leaving a 2-minute representation of what your grand 8.5 minute track was about was getting well.....
worth kidding you about.
plus i wanted to hear your sister.
don't be so precious man....(i get that impression at least sometimes)
though i do thank you for your kind words about our track which you finally listened to since...(as you wrote) you had to see who took YOUR number 2 slot.....
sorry.........
but seriously....the occasional chiding someone to get their measure on to fit the status or position of their place in the order of things is a natural tendency and right & predisposition of some of us
here
(well..me to be sure)...and...since you tend to have that position sometimes sort of.....have fun with it......or try at least.

it's part of what it's all about.
music goes beyond being little beat and delicate soundmakers don't it?
it's about expressing ourselves beyond what is the normal every day how do? and taking things to a place just a wee bit more exciting?
i just kinda figured your work was worthy of a little discussion beyond the normal....
zzzzz around here.
tell me if i'm wrong.

just to be clear.....because if your assessment of me is that of asshole....
that's fine but only if it is for the right reasons.
if you look at the time i posted that..its says sept 21 1.55 am.
my time here on the west-coast usa was probably 8 or so pm (if i recall that evening correctly)...and all i remember was> whoa!....next thing i look and i see your new version uploaded.
talk about serendipity dude.
that was YOUR point and i immediately listened and was the first to chime my approval.
it don't matter what i think of you if i hear phat-tracks coming from your corner i'll say so.
and i did.

now quit responding emotionally to 3-week old posts in your thread and we'll get along just fine.

in case you missed it....i like your song...okay?
