sadly it's now 4am and i made the mistake of reading it.
first of all, brett... i have no words.
i don't even want to get into what's wrong with "doing
what is necassary to keep us strong as a nation"
etc.etc.etc. ad nauseum. it just makes me depressed to
think about you.
secondly, i'm glad that not EVERYONE in the US has
been reduced to a frothing mass of blind haters.
seriously... all that "homeland security" shit really gives
me the creeps. and that spy-on-your-neighbors shit...
you guys need to do something about that FAST.
like, maybe some non-US history would help? i'd like to
beleive that anyone familiar enough with WWII-era
nazi germany would be able to rise above the bullshit.
what would happen if EVERY non-US country officially
decided to oppose the "war on terrorism"? what would
the US do? could they still keep up the good-guy crap
when they're taking on the entire world? cause right
now that looks like the only thing (total anti-US
solidarity) that could help. not that it would ever
happen. still... it would be so nice to see some REAL
justice.
anyway... very tired, sorry for the senselessness...

But what I REALLY like the best about DT forums is the way it has a built in functionality that makes sure the forums is never populated by a bunch of right wing wannabe intellectual idiots like most other 'tech' forums on the www...
notice the way the right wingers here have been exposed by this thread?... what a laugh.
also some of it is frightening.... we are rational people here aren't we?... not hero-worshipping kids with some distorted reality of the 'music-biz'... and we are all involved in this scenario which is building in the world by the default of living where we do .... it's VERY important to everyone, and it's amazing how some people seem to think that discussing this is some aberration and that we are supposed to all just carry on like good blind little sheep discussing the latest roland boxes etc while our 'good' politicians run tings to disaster and turn ALL OF US into the most hated people on the planet!!!!
Guys ... lets get something straight here... this is OUR generations 'Cuban missile crisis' - this is not a game here.
If you REALLY think that with all this going on people can just ignore it and carry on having banal discussions about reverb units etc then fine...
Now yes, I'm aware how some forums crush debate on the www, banning any OT discussion, and that is all part of the problem - we now have this wonderful www for human communication and the first thing that happens is.... free discussion is banned on it???
Now yes it is true that in the 90's corporates took over the dance industry, and it turned into some geek sponsored circus like the football industry...
BUT, the majority of people doing this shit, running the core of the scene going back to it's roots, is the squat/free festival etc underground crowd, and that tends to dwell in a left-wing, socialist thinking, multi-cultural-accpting scene where the people gravitate toward this type of anti-corporate, left-wing, free-beleif, culturaly-tolerant politic....
C'mon here and THINK about it.... from the early days of the 'rave' scene, or the traveller/free festie/protest scene... from the early days of Glastonbury when it was run free by a bunch of happy helpful volunteers like my cousin who lives in a caravan and has been helping out for free up at the farmhouse since the 70's... before the mean fiddler group & the 'TV station rights' & 'record company new-band promotions' took it over... or mebbe choose the Goa free party scene, bringing back all that eastern influence to the music etc... even the early days of Ibiza was just a bunch of arty/hippies setting up some free/cheap raves a few people used to go out to attend and have a laugh.... Wherever you look from 'rave' to trance, from hip-hop to acid, this whole thing was started and run and progressed by left-wing, anti-govt, underground people, living in poverty/squats/estates etc on the whole who just were doing things. Early scene was held in places like the YMCA or the local youth club throwdowns, squatted dole-offices or other disused gov't buildings or warehouses or factories, putting on NOT ONLY esoteric newly-forming underground dance nights, but free art exibitions, poetry nights, bands, dance classes, all sorts of things... Forget all your yuppie ing warehouse sattchi sponsored galleries announced with a fanfare as some groundbreaking idea... they just stole the whole idea from places like the cool-tan or the Gin factory etc where you could go and see great art exibitions long before the yuppies stole the idea and 'corporatised' it...
Some forget that 'dance' finaly became like the new fashion in the 90's... some forget that suddenly the booze and cellphone companies etc took it over and flogged it into the masses while at the same time the corporate owned gov't still spent it's time utilising resources to crush the activities of the people who actualy started it all and keep it all going as they had always done from the word go... Don't you remember how our government faced with the hysteria of the original evil 'rave' scene (after the hysteria of the evil punk-scene) passed a law to make it illegal for more than 5 people to get together in any premises without persmission from the gov't? - this is STILL law and technicaly it is illegal and you can be arrested if you and some mates get together for a few beers & spliffs and to play some music or chat etc.. FACT... but they reserved the power of this Act to crush 'raves'...
Also you have things like the gov't wanting to include stuff like GM protest under the act of 'terrorism'... all where you look it is the nasty right wingers hiding behind their intolerance and hatred and self assumption of the god given right to tell everyone else how to ing live, running around passing laws to crush anything they cant control...
and as a matter of fact most of the people in the founding rave/techno/whatever groups/bands ALL mostly came from the punk/indie scene, the previously 'banned/legislated against' & officialy gov't branded 'evil' scene...
So dont be surprised to see this type of discussion OR to see that right-wing kids have infiltrated the scene....
I can guarantee this tho.. MOST of the activity STILL happening on a ground level, all the little eclectic 'nights' happening in bars & warehouses etc round the world is STILL run by those people while the little right winger wannabe's sit at home jerking-off over some new pre-amp in a music-tech mag that they beleive will finaly get them that elusive record-deal so they can be 'famous', and otherwise just whining about stuff.
Don't forget where DANCETECH came from... this is NOT some glossy money-launched corporate owned site for flogging corporate tat & philosophy, to turn kids into some blind obedient consumers of crap.... This site started as a litle homepage to tell people that they can get a studio together & go out and play gigs with a some chreap s/h gear...
This site was setup and started as a little set of pages to help people NOT to be conned into thinking they had to buy the latest 'dance-branded' kit to make music... to show newbies that they dont have to be conned to beleive they MUST buy 2 grand pre-amps to get a 'good' vocal sound, or buy expensive 'studio-monitors' to mix with etc... I'm sick of seeing poor kids getting conned by wankers in music shops into buying shit they dont need when they could be out playing gigs and making tunes & having fun with the right advice.
Now... do something!!!!!!!!!
get involved!... start some night in your area, put on bands or new local DJ's, start a local music newletter, start a venue, just ing do something to contribute and stop your whinging and tantrum throwing and chucking the rattle out of the pram all the time.
'Every real prayer has a physical action'
the rest is just talking...

in all hopes, sometimes it can be the best thing you can do.. musicians are communicators, and sharing ideas with communicators is like a highly concentrated form of communication.

i also think its funny how anyone "right" is morally and intellectually inferior to those not so inclined.
but does anyone read what i write or do they see the name 'formant' and their mind immediately brings up all the stereotypes and connotations that they have associated with my name.
but yah K, i like the fact that you let us shoot the breeze.
but if it wasn't for the few 'rightwingers' here you guys would just be arguing shades of liberal and thats never as fun.
i enjoy seeing xoxos's seething cynicism and intellectual arrogance....
i enjoy seeing pongoids view of the world because he is the only liberal on this board that sounds like he is talking what he believes instead of 'what a good liberal' is supposed to say...
i enjoy k talking about his son and giving a different perspective on race issues...
i enjoy wondering if influx is ever gonna get caught by the tax man for his ebay loot... (jk)
i enjoy tortoise who can, at the drop of a hat drop more facts about the *most* obscure topics known to man than you knew were possible...
i admire zazza for the fact he may be the only human being with more time on his hands than is humanly possible!
each of you guys over the years has built up little personalities in my head. we are all a bit wierd and out of the norm here but in general its always fun conversation.
personally, i would hope that we could all have a bit of comradity (sp?) because of the fact we all dig producing etc in spite of our differences.
so yah K lets keep the thoughts flowing.... and keep allowing us inferior 'rightwingers' to pollute your board or it would get boring, ya know?

sorry to upset the free-thinkers
