Anyone using these machines?
What's the difference between them?

I've read that "big brother" Se-70 only supports 32 khz sample rate. But the Se-50 supports 44 khz? is that true?

And what about the batteries in them? What is a battery doing in a machine like this? And what happens when the battery runs out of power? (I need to change it, but does it affect any self-made presets or something?)

Then, what is the reliable second-hand price?

the se-70 sounds cleaner, has more effects & better sounding effects, and a slightly easier interface.

the sampling rate depends on the algorithm. this is true for both machines.

the battery is for memory backup when it's turned off/unplugged. when it runs out, you'll lose your patches (but it will still work fine; backup your patches, if it dies just replace the battery and restore your patches).

second hand.. between 100 and 200?

Ok, thanks for the info!

But will the factory-patches still remain.. untouched when the battery runs out?

And how do I make backup patches? (by writing down the values in a notebook or something? ;-)

Btw, a guy is trying to sell me a se-50 för 150. But I think I'll better spend money like that on a SE-70 (if I'm able to catch up with one).

you can use your PC/Mac to receive a sysex dump, then send it back, just like most synths. the factory patches don't necessarily remain if the battery dies, but can be restored with a simple utility command at any time as well.

i've seen se-50's recently as cheap as $50. US of course, elsewhere might be more expensive.

yeah good point... forgot about that (haven't used it yet)... next generation se70, and supposed as much better than the se70 as the se70 is from the se50... what $225 used or so?

unless you need the se70's (great sounding) 21-band vocoder... the vf1 only has an 11 band... only reason i haven't dumped mine and gotten a vf1 yet....

Is there also a 'marvellous' backup battery in the VF-1?

just about _any_ piece of gear that you can turn off and have it still remember your patches when you turn it back on will have a backup battery (some newer stuff uses flash ram like my XT, but as a general rule, expect a battery
