An excellent compact four channel mic pre for portable use (I work in the field - literally up mountains sometimes - and regularly use three channels) - very quiet and provides a genuine 60dB, and can be powered from almost anything chunkier than two dimes and a lemon. But it's spoilt by three failings, two of which are serious. First, the power socket is very sloppy (the hole in the socket is actually about 1mm larger than the diameter of the plug) so the plug can come out unexpectedly, ruining your track. I fixed this by fitting a short piece of sleeving round the back end of the plug to take up the slack, but it's a pity that a piece of kit of this quality does not have the industry standard XLR 4 pin power connector rather than a nasty consumer tubular. Second, phantom power is presented on the jack as well as the XLR at the mic/line inputs, so it's possible to accidentally blow up a dynamic mic or line source device, even if you use the routine I do - XLR for balanced/capacitor and jacks for unbalanced/dynamic. This is serious as it could destroy your kit. The third issue is only a niggle really - there's no "power on" light, so unless phantom is on you have no indication the unit is drawing current while in standby or when the signal is small. As I use the Quadmic off a portable battery pack I can run the battery flat by forgetting to unplug. I hope RME get to read this, as they have a great product here provided these faults are fixed.
