ppd Tritium
Here's a nice freeware VSTi from
ppd... yet another Swedish s/w house... and judging by this little taster good s/w design seems to be in the genes of these Swede's for some reason, (ha ha a pun!)... Well, the PPD Tritium is a freeware taster giveaway from PPD and it bodes well for this company's future cos it sounds great!!.... It's a basic little bassline type rack synth as you'd get with a Syntechno TeeBee or the Control-Synthesis DB9 or the FAT Freebass etc in hardware.
As you can see it's all basic stuff, with the following controls:
- 32 Bit Internal Oscillator - two waveforms - square & saw
- Cutoff.
- Resonance.
- Envmod.
- Decay.
- Four Voices (poly).
- Lowpass & Highpass Filter.
- Accent.
- Master Level.
- Pan.
- Pitch Bend.
- Also feat true bassline slide (glide) sound.
As you can see, it varies a bit tho from your usual 'bassline' synth... it's 4 note poly tops for a start, the filter can be switched to be lo-pass 12db or hi-pass 12db, which already gets you hundreds more sounds than the usual fixed lo-pass...
The Tritium has this extra concealed 'settings' panel revealed by clicking on the 'Tritium' name text on the unit's front-panel...
You can see it reveals more available settings, like the filter mode switch, velocity assign (assign to: accent, env mod or note volume), the polyphonic On/OFF, and a mysterious value called: 'Panorama' ... that seems to not be functioning on this version for some reason... The 'slide' control on/off is here (joy of joys) and works only if the synth is in 'mono' mode...
Slide Specification. (Only works in mono mode)
Tritium Bassline Version 2.0 uses VST 2.0 midi system and can there for read the current tempo - BPM (Beats Per Minutes) from the host sequencer and use it to control the slide speed. If you are using a high BPM you will notice that the slide are very fast. If you are using a low BPM the slide are very slow.
So.... What does the Tritium sound like ?... well it's a hard sound, like the unit has some applied overdrive on all the time, and would be great for hardhouse, trance, techno etc etc... similar to rebirth, but way way more versatile & interesting with the filter types...
Well, a great little freebie !! - what do you want newbie's for nothing eh?... great free sounds, (especially the hi-pass filter!)... check it out, no doubt we'll be hearing alot more from the company ppd... checkout their homepage via the link in the left column of this page, they have alot more synths you can checkout which look massive.... comments please...
