Urei LA3AJust adding it to the listings cos it's a classic. The Urei LA-3A - The original LA-3A Leveling Amplifier made its debut at the 1969 NY AES show and marked the departure from the tube design of the Teletronix LA-2A Leveling Amplifier. The LA-3A incorporated components and design concepts from the Bill Putnam designed 1176LN Limiting Amplifier. Immediately embraced as a studio workhorse and still widely used today, the LA-3A remains a favorite of engineers and producers worldwide for its unique compression characteristics and sonic signature....
To clear up possible confusion - Teletronix Made the LA2A and were based in Pasadena, California. At that time, (1965), Teletronix was a division of Babcock Electronics Corp. - In 1967 Babcock's broadcast division was acquired by Putnam's company which at that time was called 'Studio Electronics Corp' - shortly after that, Putnam changed the company’s name to UREI.
So, this product, the original LA-3A was made by 'UREI' - Nowadays, some of these products are available re-released by the company Universal Audio - You can get re-released versions of classics like the LA-3A, the LA-2A & the 1176LN (Low Noise)
Anyways the original & the re-issue are used by all and sundry in the music biz from huge names to bespoke studio's, they are sposed to be pretty transparent & they are sought-after. The image is of two LA-3A's racked together; a configuration you see alot as they can be stereo-linked and used over output pairs for limiting duties.
