Muon Electron

The Muon 'Electron' is a well known VSTi plugin...

Muon kindly sent me the reg code over so I could get into the Electron, and I've been a bit slack about doing the review to be honest due to lack of time...

The synth is budget territory... I'm not comparing this to £300 quid or more super softs, and in that context, and in the context of the adage that: "variety of sonic generators makes for the best tunes", this is an excellent VSTI to add-in to your collection... A 3 x 64bit oscillator synth with dual filters which can be linked in series or parallel & PWM... it does certain trance sounds REALLY well, and the second flip-screen 'vector controller' is great for controlling and is recordable, sending out control data for sweeping thru ambient textures and filtered lines as do all ELECTRON's controls....

Here's the Vector screen which you access by clicking the X-Y button in the lower center ELECTRON panel to flip between normal view & vector control view.... Think of it as like the old D50 or Darkstar joystick controller... dual axis...

Controlling 2 parameters relationaly with the x-y plot screen is childs play, and you can record it's output & tweak in your editor for cool moves....

Other cool touches are a switch to flip the on-screen controllers to work with either 'Rotational' or 'Vertical' mouse moves, so you can option to either move the pots by rotating them, or by using simple up/down vertical mouse moves.....

The vector screen also has a 'parameters-ON' switch (lower far right icon), which displays the Vertical & Horizontal axis read-out on-screen in two little boxes which follow the Vector controller pointer around on the screen as you manipulate it...

The Electron is a cool synth all in all, has it's own sound which actualy is quite rare for Budget VSTi's, and is worthy of inclusion in any setup.... it kinda reminded me soundwise of a Seil expander or something like that at times, it can be 'phat' but also fine and precise...

I really enjoyed playing with Electron, and there's an audio example of it doing some classic trance sounds below....if you make trance or other styles it's well worth a download & demo trial... when I get more time I'll add in some screen shots and a few details of use, but right now it's not on the PC as we're changing things round...

Here's some text & spec's for this product from their site:

The Muon Electron is poised to change the way VST instruments are perceived.

We’ve combined the warmth, power and range of a classic analogue synth with an innovative and flexible architecture so that you, the musician, can create huge, complex sounds and control them dynamically in your music.

Three powerful 64-bit oscillators with pulse-width modulation and sync to give you the raw audio horsepower needed to hit the deepest bass depths or crystal highs - without distortion, noise or digital artifacts.

Two independent multimode resonant filters, capable of being linked together, split apart, re-routed into each other or even cross-faded from one type to another.

Two user-assignable LFOs, plus envelope generators and MIDI performance controllers for modulation madness.

With over 60 parameters and stunning user interface features like the X-Y Controller the Electron is a synth that will keep even the keenest sound architect busy for months. That’s not to say you’ll need to be a rocket scientist to work it though, and you won’t need a mega PC to run it on!
