TURTLE BEACH TBS 2000

The TBS 2000, is Turtle Beach's cheapest card.....Currently (24/10/96)...125 Quid...(UK Sterling)

The card is Full-Duplex, (simultaneous record & play), and comes with a 128 Instrument 2MB Wavetable ROM set synth on board..... We use one in a secondary machine, & it's good & reliable...offering no set-up problems (as usual with Turtle products)...The sound quality of these cards is easily good enuff for adding audio to a midi track all the way to product level...!!

If you want to use the Yamaha DB50 XG card in a system with a TBS 2000, you will have to hang on to your Soundblaster card, and mount the Yamaha Daughterboard on that, cos the TBS 2000 will not accomadate the DB50 XG....... (groan!!)...

Alternatively, you could get the Yamaha SW60 card, which is a full card version of the DB50 XG daughterboard.....(yes!!).....

The audio spec's are :
  • Signal to Noise: -85dB (A weighted) -84dB (Unweighted)
  • Total Harmonic Distortion: < 0.01% (A Weighted) < 0.02% (Unweighted)
  • Frequency Response: 20Hz-22KHz, +0/-1dB
  • Sample Rates: CD quality audio up to 48kHz
  • Resolution: 16-bit and 8-bit
  • Audio Channels: Stereo or Mono
  • Simultaneous Play and Record Capability
The card is Win 95 Plug 'n' Pray compatible (for what it's worth), and has a standard MP 401 Midi interface.

Turtle Beach cards are ALWAYS reliable, and never seem to give any problems when setting up. This card is an ideal starter, and if you upgrade in the future to say a Tahiti card, the TBS will act as a secondary output card to give you 4 audio outs..... They are not great cards, but worth a look....

All in all, I'd say the TBS-2000, is one of the best budget priced starter card on the market, so give it a shot, just don't expect some mega-synth from it's onboard GM synth engine....(kurzwiel chip)

The early revisions of this card are a disaster... They are anti plug and play and will hog interupts... The version I have

bambozles Win95 into thinking it is three different cards... The sound set is good and bad... The samples DON'T match up

across octaves well at all. This is a defect in the wavefront chipset used AND the lack of care taken in the original rio

soundset... Still for the money it is a good card... The sampling section of my card IS fairly noisy.... The chip set is good, but

not a lot of care was taken to shield the card... Final advice, spend more money, and buy something better....

On the whole I am very pleased with the performance of the card but there is one thing, there is no way you can add

additional memory to it & if so how? Other than that I give the card a rating of 4/5

hmmmmmmm......well Martin...never ever ever use plug & play to install a card.....I think you'll find it's Old Bill's

Windows that is the problem here NOT the TBS......Plug & Play generaly doesn't work...so when you install, never

allow windows to search for the hardware & install it for you....Always reply NO....and forward to the HAVE

DRIVERS bit...then install the drivers manually.....NO problemo...

A friend loaded TBS 2000 on my machine, a 486 ibm compatible win 3.11. Suddenly for no apparent reason all I have is a pale copy of where sound used to be. I tried reloading it, but I seemed to be unsuccessful. Can someone help me or send me what I need to fix my sound card. I already have directories on my C drive for tb 2000 and tbeach. Please help.

Good, but disappointed that there's no RAM for uploading

new sounds, as the onboard sounds aren't the best.

Audio quality is superb.

Hey Kilo, how about the TB Tropez plus? I just got one not to long ago and I founded to be quite good. The price was really good $89.00(US)and the specs are not to shabby. Also you can upgrade the Ram size to 12MB using 30 pin SIMM chips which if you find some you can maximize the TB Tropez plus for about $25 to $50. Also the sampling (Fs/Nyquist) is totally acceptable. Well, let me know your two cents on this card.

Laters!!!!

It would be nice if I could find the drivers and software for it for Win3.11, Win95, and Win NT 4.0

Would you happen to know where I can get them?

Thanks Mike

Bought the Tbs-2000 (95 ready) sound card.

Downloaded the update driver to make it work.

The reason why I appreciate people who are dependable and do a good job to the extent I do, is all of the inferior products out there like yours.
